“I would protect you from your own father, from the king of England himself. If only I could trust you.”

Forced to marry the daughter—and would-be secret agent—of King Edward’s closest advisor as a consequence of His Majesty’s growing distrust of his family, Lord Waryn has a plan for his new bride. Install the spy in a little-used estate and turn his attention back to where it belongs—his family.

Lady Phillipa is given a simple but nonnegotiable task: report back any questionable activity by her new husband’s family, whom the king suspects of having ties to William Wallace. When Phillipa develops unexpected feelings toward Haydn, she’s forced to decide between her newfound loyalty to her husband, or defying the most powerful man in England.

Thirty years after the Border Series ends, a new saga of family, loyalty, and love along the turbulent Anglo-Scottish border begins. If you like sprawling families, enemies-to-lovers and slow-burn spicy romances, put A Noble Betrayal on the top of your reading list.

Romance that transports...

Cecelia Mecca is the bestselling author of steamy historical romance and also writes contemporary small town romance as Bella Michaels. Armed with a Ph.D. and lots of chai, she's known for giving readers "heroines who you want to be your best friend." When these ladies meet alpha-males who try to gain control, sparks fly until the very last page. One reader says, "No one can so completely wisk you away like Cecelia."

From the 11-book Border Series, which takes readers to an admittedly romanticized time of knights and castles, and Order of the Broken Blade with its secret knightly order, to Cecelia's co-authored Scottish time travel series, Highlander's Through Time and Enchanted Falls, Cecelia loves transporting readers to another time and place. In Kingdoms of Meria, Cecelia takes readers to a place they've never been before. Her brand new series, Brotherhood of the Border, is a Border Series spin-off which takes place thirty years later.

Our Highlander-loving author can be found in Northeast, Pennsylvania thinking up new ways to tame both medieval and contemporary bad boys. She is firmly House Stark and Gryffindor and loves all things fantasy, especially when tinged with a bit of steamy romance.

My wish has been granted!
A Noble Betrayal is the beginning of a series that tracks the next generation of Waryn’s and Kerr’s.
Families joined by marriage and their fight for what’s right, on the border between England and Scotland.

Haydn is the first son and heir of Geoffrey and Sara from the book The Thief’s Countess.
His destiny is not unsimilar to tell the truth.
He’s been summonsed to the court of the King of England who is demanding a marriage, this one though is so he can keep an eye on the family.
Is Haydn’s new wife Phillipa a spy?,
or will she keep her husbands confidence, and be true only to him?
Aaah! the plot thickens.

Cecelia has not lost her gift for writing strong female roles to challenge even the toughest of men.
This book is just as good as the original series and is definitely one you’ll want to read if you loved The Border series.
I was blown away by it, my return to the borders was nostalgic, romantic and satisfying.
Bring me more!!!

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Lord Haydn Waryn is furious at his current circumstances. Thanks to a growing distrust of his family’s pro-Scottish leanings, he’s to marry the daughter of one of King Edward’s closest advisors. Haydn is sure the woman is being sent to act as a spy and he has every intention of leaving her at one of his seldom-frequented estates and seeing her rarely, as much as it upsets him that he won’t be blessed with a love match like the one his parents enjoy.

Lady Phillipa has been ordered to keep her father informed of her new husband’s actions as the king suspects him of being a Scottish sympathizer. Her father has threatened the safety of her beloved younger sister to ensure her compliance, but as Phillipa comes to care for Haydn, she must find a way to betray the king to protect the husband she has come to love.

This series is off to a fast-paced and wholly engrossing start with this book. I tore through this story very quickly, which is exceedingly rare for me right now given how short my attention span has been, and I truly didn’t want to put it down. The communication issues between the MCs here, a trope I usually don’t care for, were handled so well, and resolved so quickly that I actually really loved it. I think the way the situation these characters faced was presented and handled here made them seem more real and believable. Haydn and Phillipa both struggled through an untenable situation, and it brought them closer in a very short period of time as they traveled so we also got some delicious road trip forced proximity, which is a trope I adore. I was nervous about this series being set in the tumultuous time of William Wallace and afraid it would make me too stressed about the safety of beloved characters but that didn’t happen. I’m super excited now about the rest of this series and revisiting beloved characters from the Border series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

Pleasantly surprised by this one. An escape romance if you're looking for a quick read. I'm definitely going to read further into the series. I like the background story and the history she's woven in. There are a few minor annoyances that I've gotten over, such as the serial names that start with "H" and the over-use of the "well and truly" phrase. (which is annoyingly over-used in a lot of books). But I liked the characters and the plot. Short and sweet. Just started the second book.

A Noble Betrayal is the first book in the Brotherhood series and is taking us back to the 1300's on the England/ Scotland Border.
Haydn Waryn has found himself in quite a predicament. He needs to prove his loyalty to the King and an arranged marriage seems to be the key. He is promised to Lady Phillipa and he is more than sure that his betrothed is being sent to him as a spy.
Lady Phillipa has grown up in a house where she has no say. Her father rules with an iron fist and his never once asked for her opinion. She now finds that she can remover herself from her father's home if she marries a chosen suitor. An arranged marriage, just what every gal wants.
The moment they meet the night before their intended wedding you know that this is going to be quite an adventure.
Can Haydn trust his new bride and will Lady Phillipa warm the cold heart of her new husband? This couple is sweet, sassy, romantic and are going to turn up the heat on those cold nights !Sit back and enjoy the adventure through the vast lands of Scotland as we watch this romance unfold on the pages !!

I love a series, I love it when characters from series overlap so I was thrilled that the next generation of Waryn’s & Kerr's are featuring in a new series. Did it disappoint – no. Was I totally & utterly engrossed - you bet I was. Wonderful characters & a storyline that drew me in from page 1. I loved it & read it in two sittings as it was so, so very good
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Amazing start to the spinoff "Border Series"!! It is not necessary to read the previous series but it would give you great insight to the characters you are about to meet.

Haydn is a perfect hero in my eyes: loyal, fierce, honest, truth-worthy, and clearly was not looking forward to a forced marriage by King Edward. It was clear the king, which history tells us is very twitchy and assumes the worst of even his closest allies, wants to plant a spy in the house of Waryn. Haydn will have his hands full trying to figure out just what this spy will be up to.

Phillipa was raised at court, taught to only speak when spoken to and would suffer harsh consequences if she spoke out of turn. She always knew she'd be a bargaining chip of sorts and this upcoming forced marriage has many worries and concerns not only for herself, but her sister. What she didn't expect was the handsome man standing before the alter awaiting their nuptials. She dared to hope for the best until she noticed he was just as reluctant as she to enter this marriage.

It's a great story and a perfect beginning to a new series centered around the time of Wallace and the Bruce where this author spins a captivating tale. And with an ending that steers you right into needing book two! I was gifted with an ARC and cannot wait for the next one in this series!!

When Silence Threatens Love

"Just when she'd found her voice, Philippa didn't want to use it..."

This was a very enjoyable read, with just the right amount of heat balanced with a carefully constructed, authentic depiction of a new relationship between a man and a woman who have promised "to have and to hold" but have very good reasons not to do so and must learn to love and to trust. Mecca breathed fresh life into the always-familiar wedding night, overall crafting love-scenes that were steamy, tender, and at times sweetly comical.

Despite never reading any of the previous series or anything by Mecca before, after the first two chapters, I was fully absorbed. Philippa is such a sympathetic character and I really enjoyed how Mecca did not modernize her but rather depicted her as most medieval women would have been taught to be--silent, chaste, obedient, even to a fault and at times to her own detriment. But thank heavens Haydn is not your typical medieval man and believes a woman should have the freedom to speak his mind. The way he encouraged his new wife to speak, even though he did not wish to marry her in the first place and believes her to be a spy in his midst, is extremely endearing. I enjoyed the way Mecca emphasized the way the Waryn men believed in treating all women with respect and kindness, from lowborn to high. The interplay between Haydn and his younger brother, Holt, was entertaining and I found myself wishing he played more of a part. Looking forward to his future book!

My only complaint might be that the book is too short. But it serves its purpose--giving an intense and heart-wrenching glimpse into the lives of this pair of newlyweds who are caught in the crosshairs of a suspicious king and an abusive father, between the borders of England and Scotland.

I loved the original Border Series and this spin off looks to be a winner. It is great to revisit the families we loved so much and meet their grown-up children. Haydn has a strong personality who will do his duty every time. Phillipa and Hadyn are both forced into an unwanted marriage. How they overcome the pressures by King Edward makes for a fantastic storyline. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one in the series.

A new medieval romance series from Ms. Mecca! Joy!! Noble Betrayal is a series featuring the next generation of lords and ladies who live along the border of England and Scotland in 1300. If you thought that their parents lived in dangerous and tumultuous times, the new series is set in the days of William Wallace and his arch enemy King Edward the I (Longshanks). Those were really dangerous times for families along the border, especially ones who had mixed loyalties like the Waryn and Kerr families. In this, the first in the new series, the romance is backwards, with the main characters Haydn Waryn and Phillipa, complete strangers, ordered to marry immediately by King Edward so that he can force Phillipa to spy on the Waryn family from the inside. I loved the characters that were so well developed and realistic. You could feel the angst and tension they felt when they try to forge a marriage on lack of trust and unfamiliarity. Ms. Mecca loves to create impossible situations for her lovers and she really succeeds this time. The book is steamy and so romantic but you will not want to put the book down until you know whether they can solve the problems they face. The intrigue and threat of the battle between the countries makes for an exciting backdrop to the story, as do the updates on old friends from the previous series.

A Noble Betrayal
Brotherhood of the Border #1
Cecelia Mecca
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lord Waryn is being forced to marry the daughter and spy of King Edward's closest advisor because of His Majesty’s growing distrust of his family, but Lord Waryn has a plan. He will leave his new bride/spy in a little used Estate and then turn his attention back to where it should be, his family.

Lady Phillipa is given a simple yet non-negotiable task. She is to report back any questionable activity by her new husband's family, whom the king strongly suspects has close ties to William Wallace. But things don't always go as planned, do they? When Phillipa starts to develop unexpected feeling towards Haydn, she is forced to decide between her newfound loyalty to her husband, or defying the most powerful man in England.

This is a new saga of love, loyalty, and family that begins thirty years after the Border Series ends.

Wow Cecelia Mecca is absolutely brilliant. I enjoyed this book so much. It didn't take me long to read at all because I couldn't put it down. The characters are absolutely amazing. Waryn and Phillipa were made for each other but they just didn't know it at first. All in all I'd say this is another win for Ms. Mecca and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

This is the first book in the Brotherhood of the Border series. It takes place in 1300, many years after the Border Series occurred and ties back to that series as the border character’s children are now dealing with the strife between England and Scotland. The King of England and his closest council, The Earl of Sherfield, conspire to force a marriage between Lord Haydn Waryn and Lady Phillipa Pernell, daughter of the Earl. They want to use her to spy on the Waryn family who has close ties to Clan Kerr and maybe even William Wallace. It’s an extremely quick betrothal to marriage scenario. They don’t know each other and don’t trust each other, but they start to see traits in each other which binds them during their travels north and draws them closer together.
Reading went quickly as the chapters seemed to fly by and kept me interested along the way. There was sexual steam, protective vibes, misguided maneuvers, but overall a great way to escape from reality for a while. I enjoyed reading this book and because I liked the Border Series, I am looking forward to see what happens with the brotherhood and who we meet along the way. An ARC copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Dreams do come true and this new series proves it! I truly fell in love with the first series this author penned "The Border Series" and introduced me to the battle between the borders. The heroes were strong and fearless and the ladies that loved them were brave and matched them in so many ways!

Now to be introduced to some of their offspring many years later, is like finding out how families you knew well strived!! This is Sir Hayden Waryn and Lady Phillipa. There were to marry at the order of the King. Unfortunately expectations were that Phillipa would spy on the Waryn family.

Cecelia weaves her magic and pulls you into a story that will not let you go until the end! I really just want to tell you the entire story, but be prepared to have your heart pound as you visit medieval times and fall in love with these characters and their story. Cannot wait until the next in the series!!

A new series by Cecelia Mecca that has us back in the borderlands and is filled with plenty of excitement, danger and of course, romance! It's always a pleasure to read one of Ms. Mecca's stories, especially those taking place when Scotland was fighting for their freedom from the English rule.

Haydn is forced to marry Phillipa at King Edwards demand and although both are unhappy about it, there is not much they can do. He doesn't trust her since her father is one of the King's closest confidant and knows that she is at his side to spy!! She will do anything to protect her younger sister, even if it means spying....but suddenly having feelings for her new husband makes her decisions that much more complicated!

I found this to be such a wonderful start to this new series and has completely whetted my appetite for more. Looking forward to the next books in the Brotherhood of the Border series!! The writing and storytelling is excellent, as is the research.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The first book in a new series, I am delighted that I have had the opportunity of being able to read and review this exciting romance. Pawns in a political game, Lady Phillipa and Lord Waryn are forced into a marriage orchestrated by her father and King Edward. Used to following orders, Phillipa takes on the role her father has charged her with, namely to spy on Waryn's family, if only to protect her sister from their machinations. Aware that his new wife was selected to do the bidding of the King, Waryn has no choice other than to accept the monarch's dictates. What he did not expect was to fall in love with the beautiful woman who has become his bride. Set in a turbulent era, this novel has adventure, intrigue, and suspense over and above the romance that is brewing between the main characters. It is also well written and kept my attention throughout, coming to an amusing conclusion as the stage is set for the next installment of this series. I received a copy of this novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Thirty years have passed

since we met Geoffrey Waryn and Lady Sara Caiser. In this book we are introduced to Haydn Waryn, their eldest son, who has just been informed that King Edward has decreed Haydn is to marry Lady Phillipa. Lady Phillipa is the daughter of the Earl of Sherfield, who is one of the king's closest advisors.
King Edward and his cronies do not trust the Waryn's because of their relationship to Clan Kerr. The king feels betrayed by the Waryn's because they did not send men to fight with him against the Scots a William Wallace; therefore he intends to use Lady Phillipa to gather information for him about the extent of the Waryn's loyalty.
An arranged marriage with a deceitful purpose is not the easiest way to begin. The marriage is held within 3 days of their initial meeting at Westminster.Immediately after their ceremony they begin their long journey. Haydn intends to see his wife settled at Hillstone Manor...just not with him.
The journey takes a it of time and along the way they encounter delays due to weather issues and an attack. It was perilous to travel during this time of unrest. But a beautiful awakening happens during this journey for our hero and Lady. There is an attraction, of course, but more than that, Haydn opens his heart and truly begins to work towards the possibility of a true marriage with Phillipa. A misunderstanding occurs and Haydn is once again conflicted. Until he isn't.
The new series seems to be following the same spellbinding narrative of the Border Series. If you haven't read that series yet, do yourself a favor... Read that and then you will be familiar with the characters and the roles they play. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of this series. Well done Cecelia!

Cecelia Mecca’s “A Noble Betrayal: Brotherhood of the Border” Series is the next generation of the lords and their ladies who live along the border of England and Scotland in 1300 during the perilously dangerous time of William Wallace and his King Edward the I (Longshanks).

I have anxiously awaiting the arrival of “A Noble Betrayal” and it was so worth the wait! I didn’t know whether to savor or devour this exciting story so I did both. The story picked up 30 years after the original Border Series and while I wholeheartedly recommend you read the entire series it isn’t necessary in order to enjoy this book.

The author brilliantly weaves memorable historical characters and situations into this wonderful story with the characters of her creative genius rendering a tale of family, political intrigue, loyalties, deception, betrayal, love and a spicy romance sure to set your hearts aflame.

As is true Cecelia Mecca style, this breathtaking story itself is utterly amazing and her characters are multi faceted, well developed and interesting. The conflict of the times is portrayed accurately and realistically pulling you into the story and the relationships therein. In spite of the initial relationship of our heroine and hero it’s so clear to see that they belong together. Her dialogue and imagery are excellent as always. If you love brawny, sexy, noble and loyal Scottish heroes, intelligent, strong and sometimes sassy heroines, spicy romance and undeniable chemistry , all encompassing, timeless love stories, intriguing storylines rich in historical detail and the imagery of Scotland you’ll love Cecelia Mecca!

Thank you so much Ms. Mecca! This exciting love story is beautifully told and wonderfully written.

In case you don’t know, I do have a love of historical romances. Even better if they’re on the spicy side. Having read everything Cecelia Mecca has ever written, I was really happy to find out that she was introducing a new spin off series to her successful Border Series. Taking place 30 years after, we are given an introduction to the adult children of the previous heroes and heroines and it starts with A Noble Betrayal. In it, we are introduced to Haydn, the eldest Waryn who is “tasked” with marrying a noble’s daughter, Lady Phillipa, who is placed in the untenable position of spying on her new husband and his family. Obviously, things don’t go as His Majesty demands, which makes for great storytelling. As is typical with Ms. Mecca, the hero and heroine play well of each other and their “interludes” are downright spicy. I’m quite looking forward to the progression of this series. I love the turbulence of the Anglo-Scottish border, we have references to Wallace, we get to visit with the elder family members and catch up with what their lives have been like these long decades past, and well, did I mention that Haydn and Phillipa are spicy? Most definitely recommended.

Haydn, Lord Waryn is forced to marry Lady Phillipa, the daughter of King Edward’s closest advisor. He believes that Phillipa is a spy, forced upon him due to the King’s distrust of his family’s sympathies towards William Wallace. Phillipa is given the task of reporting back any questionable activity by her new husband’s family to the King. Yet Phillipa complicates matters by falling in love with Haydn, making her choose between her newfound loyalty to her husband, or defying the King.
Having not read the previous series, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I found myself thoroughly immersed in this series with great dialogue between the main characters. These were two great characters who struggle with their situation but their relationship whilst tense to start with, developed into one that was passionate and believable. I am now hooked and look forward to reading more about the different characters of previous books.

A Noble Betrayal is the first book in a new series that takes place about 30 years after the borderland series. This series focuses on the children of some of the characters from the previous series.

Haydn is the eldest son of Sara & Geoffrey Waryn who are the main characters from “The Thief’s Countess” from the borderland series. He is being forced to marry by King Edward who suspects the Waryn family of not being entirely loyal to him.

Phillipa is the daughter of one of King Edwards closest advisors. She is also being forced to marry so she can report back to her father and King Edward about the Waryn family.

Can a forced marriage turn into trust and love?

This is another great story by Cecelia Mecca which I loved reading. Can’t wait for the next book.
I really liked the bonus chapter too.

Haydn Waryn is forced to marry Phillipa which is arranged by King Edward. Phillipa is the daughter of one the kings trusted advisors. Her father and the king are not sure where the Waryn's loyalty are and they want her to spy on the Waryn household. She is to write her father and inform him of what is going on within the family and what their plans are. Phillipa does not like it but is being forced to obey her father. Haydn suspects that she is plant by the king and will have to watch what is said whenever she is around. They both are in a difficult situation and will have some hard decisions to make. Things really get complicated when they start to have feelings for one another and start to doubt some of their decisions. The connection they have for one another is not something neither one can ignore.
What an exciting story to start this fantastic series. I am a big fan of the Border Series and am excited about reading this spinoff. I really enjoy the history of it all and look forward to seeing what happens next.

A Story Of Trust, Romance, Family:
A deeply emotional and passionate romance story of trust and finding love.
The strong intelligent characters and plot of this story captured me from the beginning.
There is a lot of intrigue, doubt, mistrust, hatred, heartfelt caring including some
passionate pillow talk that had me in awe how the author captured the essence of
fear and desire along with the honesty it takes for love to grow.
An extremely exciting ending that had me giving out a shout of joy!
This is a beautiful love story that melted my heart.
I do so look forward to the rest of this thrilling series.
I did receive this book for my honest opinion.

So Glad to Visit this Time Period Again!!

We are in the 1300’s and England and Scotland do not get along. A marriage is decreed by the King; Lady Phillipa is to “keep an eye” on Haydn and his family. Neither are pleased.

Haydn plans to install Phillipa in a remote location. As they travel, he learns she was mistreated by her father, both physically and not allowed her voice. Phillipa is slow to share her opinion.

We like both characters who are caught in an impossible situation. A fascinating read as they work their way to a resolution. I loved every minute of this story.

This is an awesome start to a new series in a familiar world. I did not realize how much I missed the Border world until I got back into it. If you have already read the Border Series, "A Noble Betrayal" will feel like coming home. If this is your first foray at the Border, there is enough in the backstory that you will not feel as you are missing something. All of the characters are strong and well written, not just our main characters. The story is a familiar one of the time, a marriage forced upon two people who have no say in who they are married to. It was great to watch Haydn and Phillipa get to know each other and see their relationship develop even though they had obstacles to overcome. This story had all the things I have become accustomed to in a book by Cecelia Mecca, intrigue, desire, loyalty, and laughter. And as usual, the end of the book left me wanting more. Thankfully book 2 in the series is not too far in the future.
