Captured. Imprisoned. Prepared to die.

Galien Kerr knew supporting William Wallace could someday get him killed, and it seems someday might come sooner than he imagined. But as he sits in an English dungeon with little chance of release, a flicker of hope emerges from the darkness.

The baron’s daughter.

Lady Reina proposes a trade to the handsome, fiery-eyed prisoner: his life for information about her past. Releasing him would certainly incur the wrath of her father and their king, but leaving him in a dungeon cell would keep hidden the secrets she so desperately longs to uncover.

And so she strikes an uneasy bargain with the Scots warrior.

Forced together on their journey to the safety of Clan Kerr, the emerging truth about Reina’s past and Galien's allegiance to the cause—Scotland's fight for independence—threatens to unravel the budding lovers’ bond.

Thirty years after the Border Series ends, a new saga of family, loyalty, and love along the turbulent Anglo-Scottish border begins.

Author's Note: If you like multi-generational families, forced proximity, and historical romance with a bit of extra spice, put A Clan of Her Own at the top of your reading list.

Romance that transports...

Cecelia Mecca is the bestselling author of steamy historical romance and also writes contemporary small town romance as Bella Michaels. Armed with a Ph.D. and lots of chai, she's known for giving readers "heroines who you want to be your best friend." When these ladies meet alpha-males who try to gain control, sparks fly until the very last page. One reader says, "No one can so completely wisk you away like Cecelia."

From the 11-book Border Series, which takes readers to an admittedly romanticized time of knights and castles, and Order of the Broken Blade with its secret knightly order, to Cecelia's co-authored Scottish time travel series, Highlander's Through Time and Enchanted Falls, Cecelia loves transporting readers to another time and place. In Kingdoms of Meria, Cecelia takes readers to a place they've never been before. Her brand new series, Brotherhood of the Border, is a Border Series spin-off which takes place thirty years later.

Our Highlander-loving author can be found in Northeast, Pennsylvania thinking up new ways to tame both medieval and contemporary bad boys. She is firmly House Stark and Gryffindor and loves all things fantasy, especially when tinged with a bit of steamy romance.

I always loved Torren Kerr in The Border Series, such an enigmatic character, his son Galien is very similar, though without that hard edge.
He’s a devout follower of William Wallace, Much to his fathers frustration
And he gets himself in a pretty sticky situation.

Enter our woman of the hour Reina, sweet, strong, determined and totally smitten at first sight with the Scotsman.
She needs information and he’s the only one with possible answers.

Cecelia has out done herself with this new series.
She’s got our intrepid pair on the run, in this tense and beautifully written read.
Can they outrun the jailers that are lead by her father?
Some wonderful moments and great twists.
I can’t fault this book.
Enjoy

This book epitomises why I love the author’s books, well written with fact & fiction merging, wonderful characters & a pace that means I’m not moving until I’ve finished the book. Galien is absolutely adorable, totally honourable & loyal, who wouldn’t fall for him, I certainly did. I also loved Reina, a strong woman, desperate to know the truth of her past. Together they face dangers & their road isn’t easy but it made of one roller coaster of a read with surprises I didn’t see coming. Another brilliant book.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Honestly, this is Cecelia Mecca at her best! I absolutely adored this story and couldn't put it down until I'd finished reading it. Scotland's bid to be independent of England was a time of brutal and unimaginable atrocities, yet it's a time that I find fascinating. This author has done her homework and I love how she uses real history with a mix of her imagination to bring us her stories.

All Reina has ever wanted was to know exactly who she was and where she came from. Galien puts his life on the line to protect William Wallace, much to his family's dismay. When the two meet in very unusual circumstances, both are unprepared for the mutual attraction that burns between them. In exchange for releasing him from her father's dungeon, he agrees to find out the truth of her birth. An adventure like no other soon sees them fleeing for their lives and in the midst of all the untrust, warring and a few twists and turns, love becomes all encompassing.

I do love a good historical romance and I’ve been reading Cecelia Mecca’s stories since her first Border book. If you loved that series, then you will definitely enjoy her newest one where we are witness to the next generation of the various Clan members, while still sometimes being able to visit with old friends from the Border series. In A Clan of Her Own, we get to read about Galien’s (follower of Wallace) and Reina’s story and it’s filled with intrigue, deception, anger, grief, hope, and romance. As someone who does love history, I’m enjoying this telling of Wallace from the viewpoints of some of his followers. While the story is clearly about Galien and Reina, we do get Ms. Mecca’s interpretation of what life was like and it’s glorious entertainment from start to finish.

In spite of a desperate rebellion and the brutality of war, love finds a way in this exciting romance. Galien Kerr knows his days are numbered, especially after the beatings he has endured and being chained to a wall. When the need for the truth about her origins overcomes her fears, Lady Reina takes her courage into her hands and confronts the prisoner in her father's dungeon, offering him an escape in return for information. Despite not being part of her plan, Reina finds herself on the run with Galien as they make their way to his family's holdings in Scotland. With all she has heard about William Wallace and his men, Reina is surprised to find in Galien a gentle man, one who protects and keeps her safe and shows her the utmost respect. Traveling together day and night brings them together in a way that reveals their true natures and through it, they find the answer to all the longings of their hearts. Fear has Reina in its grip as she contemplates the enormity of what she has done, but when faced with the reality of the outcome, she is shocked beyond words. Although Galien and Reina's story comes to a sweet conclusion, the battle is far from over. I am reminded of the words of Sir Walter Scott from the poem The Foray, “Up! up, my brave kinsmen! belt swords and begone, There are dangers to dare and there 's spoil to be won.” I received a copy of this heartwarming romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Another fantastic story in this new Border series! Galien is a strong Highland warrior who meets Reina in a most difficult situation. Reina and Galien both must work together if they wish to survive. Their attraction develops on a par with most of the characters in this family, but will love win out in the end? Lots of adventure and danger with a few secrets along the way. I am absolutely loving this series and highly recommend it.

Lady Reina is an obedient daughter but when she has a chance to find out about her true parentage she helps a prisoner escape. Galien is thankful to Reina for helping him. He vows to protect her. But it may be her heart that needs protection from him. Until he loses his heart to her. Their journey is dangerous and the sparks between them are crackling. They will be surprised at who comes to help them. Loved this story.

Flew through this one. Enjoyed these two characters, even though they both fell for each other a little too quickly. I usually like a little animosity mixed in here and there. But other than that, no complaints. Looking forward to Rory's story.

Lady Reina is the daughter of an English baron and feels her parents are hiding something about her birth and she is determined to find the true answers. She knows that Galien can help her in her quest of who she really is. The only problem is that Galien is a prisoner in her father's dungeon so she must help him escape. Once they are free they have to hide while they travel and know they can be found at anytime. Galien has pledged his allegiance to his commander for a cause he truly believes in but has promised to help Reina.

Their journey together is very suspense, dangerous, touching and romantic. There are several surprises that you will not see coming but will thoroughly enjoy. You find yourself hoping that they find the truth. Their feelings for one another continue to grow as they travel and hide from their enemies. Soon Galien will have a difficult decision to make and he is not sure he will choose the correct one.

Cecelia's books are always so exciting and full of fascinating history. Her stories keep you so interested that you just can't seem to put the book down, saying just one more chapter. It was great to read about the couples from the Border series and where they are now in their life. Brotherhood of the Border is just as outstanding as the Border series and I can't wait to see what happens next in this series. Thank you for the Bonus Scene; counting down the days!

A Clan of Her Own
Brotherhood of the Border #2
Cecelia Mecca
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Galien Kerr has always known that supporting William Wallace could get him killed at any time, but it seems now that day has come sooner then he ever could have thought. As he sits in an English dungeon with none to little chance of being released, someone brings him hope.
The Barron's daughter.

Lady Reina proposes a trade to the handsome stranger, his life for information about her past. About who she is. She knows that releasing him would certainly upset her father and incur the wrath of the king, but leaving him there could keep the secrets of her past buried. Secrets she longs to find out.

And so she strikes a bargain with a Scottish warrior. Forced together on their journey they will need the safety of Clan Kerr if they want to stay alive, but will Reina's past and Galien's allegiance to William Wallace be their chance at what they so badly want? Or will it end up tearing them apart?

Cecelia Mecca is absolutely fabulous. This fascinating tale is one you won't want to miss. Ms. Mecca brings the past to life with her border series books. Reina was a great character who even when afraid knew she could always trust Gael and Galien, all he wanted was to make sure Reina was safe and keep his word in the fight for freedom to the cause. These two paired up perfectly. The ending was incredibly shocking as I didn't see it coming, but truly found it magnificent. This book could not have ended on a better note. Ms. Mecca thank you for keeping me entertained and I can't wait to read the next book.

Galien Kerr has been captured by the English as he was fighting with the Scotsman William Wallace. As he languishes in a dungeon, he fears his life will not last long.

Lady Reina de Rothinger is the barons daughter and wants some answers about her birth.
She proposes a trade – his life in exchange for information about her past.

Can they outrun the baron’s men to get to Scotland to find the answers Reina wants?

As usual Cecelia has written a most excellent book. The story flows freely and there are twists that I really didn’t see coming.
Once I started to read it, I had trouble putting it down.

This is book two in this new series but can be easily read without having read book one.

The bonus chapter is also excellent.

Galien Kerr made his choice and is prepared to die for the cause.  Sitting in an English dungeon is the last place he expects an opportunity to strike.

Lady Reina knows that the parents who brought her up are not her birth parents. Unfortunately nobody admits to knowing her true background. Maybe a Scotsman will know more.

Life on the border is always dangerous, especially with King Edward and William Wallace in the mix.

This historical romance is lots of fun.  Our hero is a dedicated and honourable warrior.  Our heroine is a brave and inquisitive young lady.  They have a dangerous adventure to get to the truth.

This series is related to a previous one, so you might know some of the characters,  but you can easily read this on it's own.

Great fun.

Honor Goes A Long Way In This Romance:
Galien born to be a warrior but, is now stuck in an English
prison for fighting against King Edward.
Reina is curious and seeks out Galien in the dungeon.
She has never met a Scot but has a very important question for him.
He has an answer for her, and their thrilling and dangerous journey of discovery and spicey romance begins.
One crisis after another kept things in turmoil but their attraction for each grew stronger until their desire is undeniable.
This is a skillfully written love story of two strong characters and a wonderful family you can't help but fall in love with.
Many times I found myself holding my breath or clenching my jaw. I loved the many blindsided surprises there are with an extremely intense ending.
Excellent epilogue ends with a happy ending and also gives us a hint of book #3. Son of a Rogue.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post my simple review of an excellent story.

Another 5 star read from Cecelia Mecca. "A Clan of Her Own" is book 2 in the Brotherhood of the Border series. The characters are the offspring of some of the beloved character in the Border Series. The hero is strong and the heroine is badass. The story is wonderful, there is action and suspense, and typical for this time there is loyalty, love, politics and clan dynamics. The world building is tremendous with the perfect blend of history and imagination. I always try and plan to read Cecelia's books when I know I can stay up all night reading, because once I start I will not put it down until I am finished. This book was no different and it did not disappoint. I cannot wait for the next installment in this series.

It's well written, moves fluidly and is another terrific story by Cecelia Mecca!! I loved and would recommend reading. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Scotland v England in the 1300’s!!

I love traveling back in time for these stories. Our story starts with our hero Gailen in a dungeon. Our heroine Lady Reina has questions about her heritage. To get the answers to her questions she must free Gailen, and travel with him to Scotland.

Danger all around. Hiding and traveling with no provision. Each finds something to like about the other. Twists and turns, who is enemy and who is foe. Could a match from such unlikely “sides” work?

Wonderful story.

After sacrificing himself so William Wallace could escape, Galien Kerr is facing the day he has dreaded since joining the cause. He always knew his position might see him killed, but now, imprisoned in the dungeon of an English baron, it seems that day is coming sooner than he imagined. Galien has little chance of escape until the appearance of the baron’s daughter changes everything.

Lady Reina offers a trade: she’ll free that handsome prisoner if he’ll provide her with answers about her own mysterious past. She knows her father and her king will be furious, but if she leaves the prisoner to die, the answers she’s so desperate for will be lost along with him.

Reina settles into a tense alliance with Galien as the two travel together to find safety with his clan. The bond between them grows even as it is threatened by the unraveling of the truth about Reina’s past and Galien’s loyalty to Scotland’s struggle for independence.

This book came up on my TBR just as my family suffered a tragic loss and I must say it was just the right story for the moment. In times of tension, I was able to dive into Galien and Reina’s journey for a bit of a respite from the chaos going on around me and it helped immensely. I loved that despite the fraught situation they were in, Galien and Reina rapidly came to trust one another and their openness with each other made this a great read for me. I enjoyed the fact that they were so straightforward with their truths and their feelings for one another. Ultimately, they were both searching for their place to belong and the fact that they found that together warmed my heart. For me, this was another hit and I’m looking forward to Rory’s story.

The Danger Continues in Book 2 of The Brotherhood of the Border

Still a time of great turbulence, secrets, and discretionary alliances, King Edward has not taken kindly to being thwarted by his Barons, and nobles, nor by the Scots led by the wily William Wallace.

Our hero, Galien Kerr, eldest son of Clan Chief Toren Kerr, is being held in an English dungeon when we are introduced. He has been fighting with William Wallace and has been captured.

Our heroine, Lady Reina, is the daughter and heiress of the English Baron where Galien is being held. Lady Reina is sheltered and naive, but feels called upon to speak with the Scot. She makes her way past the guards, and after a lengthy conversation, with some contemplation, and a promise from Galien she will not be left behind, Lady Reina releases Galien and they make their escape. Of course, it's not without peril.

As Galien and Reina travel, they learn to rely upon each other and truly begin to know each other, especially during the journey to a safer place for them both. It's a journey fraught with obstacles; the biggest obstacle of all is that proximity breeds feelings of respect, loyalty, honor and love. However, neither of them can see a way to begin a relationship because of conflicting obligations.

As the book progresses, mysteries unfold, secrets are revealed, and the truth emerges.

Another lovely read from Cecelia Mecca. This series is quickly becoming another favorite to savor. The writing is superb; the storyline easy to follow. The conversations feel like they're happening in front of you. You can easily be transported back to the Border in any of the books Cecelia Mecca authors. Her attention to detail is incredible.

Thank you to the author for the privilege of an ARC. These are my own opinions.

I loved the story about h0w Galien gets captured and thrown in an English Dungeon for supporting William Wallace. While waiting to see what is going to happen to him, a beautiful English Lady, Reina
proposes a trade to Galien, help her to find her birthright. But releasing him would bring wrath from her father and king. They both grow close to each other on their journey to Clan Kerr. Together they faces the dangers. I loved the ending.

Galien is a warrior and helped William Wallace and is now in a English prison for fighting agains king Edward. His character is strong and puts up with a lot of torture. Reina the heroine of the story finds herself interested in Galien and seeks him out and this is where their forbidden streams romance starts.
Their is undeniable chemistry from these characters and as always Cecelia wows us with her amazing storytelling. Their is plenty of angst, action, and plenty of steamy goodness that you expect from the amazing Cecelia. This story was very well written and has a amazing ending. I can not wait for the next book.

I love Scottish stories, and Cecelia Mecca weaves them brilliantly. Galien Kerr finds himself in an English dungeon. Lady Reina Anbarth has a proposition for him. She wants to know where she is from and is willing to release a Scotsman to find the truth. This story has honor, lies, forgiveness, and passion. The borderland is a rough area to survive. The characters are honorable, passionate, and believable.
