France-based paper packaging provider Gascogne Papier has ordered a new high-capacity winder from Finnish solutions provider Valmet.
The winder is intended for the PM 7 paper machine at the company’s site in Mimizan, France.
Valmet will provide a high-capacity OptiWin two-drum compact winder, which is capable of producing shipping rolls of different widths and diameters.
The winder is fitted with proactive dual spreading and an automated butt-joint splicing feature to help meet its customers’ targets.
Furthermore, Valmet will offer a wide service across the site to handle various projects, including the maintenance of master data and the implementation of a spare parts package.
This also includes the Slitter Management Program, Valmet Winder Diagnostics, and other Valmet Industrial Internet solutions.
Gascogne’s PM 7 manufactures natural machine-glazed and sack kraft grades of paper.
The new winder is capable of handling parent rolls of 6,870mm in width and 3,200mm in diameter.
It can operate at a speed of 1,300 metres per minute and has a daily design capacity of 450 tons.
Gascogne’s industrial director Régis Laffont said: “This winder will be a key contributor to the top-level quality of our future papers, which will reinforce the current positioning of Gascogne Papier as a world-leading kraft paper producer.”
Valmet added the delivery as part of another order received in the second quarter of this year.
The machine is expected to become operational in 2025. The value of this order has not been disclosed.
Valmet’s senior mill sales manager Yannick Duperrier said: “To meet their [Gascogne] high-capacity and quality targets, the customer was searching for a supplier capable of providing a high-quality winder. Our solution and expertise reassured them and confirmed that we are a frontrunner in the winding technology.”
Earlier this month, Valmet entered into an agreement to acquire Körber Group’s Business Area Tissue for an enterprise value of €380m ($425.6m).
