PHOENIX — The most beautiful public high school in Arizona is located in Chandler, a popular architectural magazine said.

According to Architectural Digest, the most aesthetically pleasing school was Chandler High School, located near Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard.

One of the oldest schools in the state, Chandler High School was established in 1914, with the oldest buildings standing today completed in the early 1920s. They feature a blend of Colonial Revival and Spanish Revival styles.

The first buildings at the school were designed by Allison & Allison, a Los Angeles-based architecture firm, around 1920.

When it opened, it had some state-of-the-art amenities for the time, including a physics lab, auditorium and an ultramodern electric clock and bell system.

One of the original buildings, Old Main, was added to the National Register of Historical Places.

The school has been expanded over the years, which is probably a good thing, as we don’t imagine the more than 3,000 students would fit into a space once used by the class of 1930 — only 15 people graduated that year.

It has undergone numerous additions and at least two massive renovations, including a $30 million overhaul in 2002.

The campus now boasts about 10 buildings and is also home to the Chandler Center for the Arts, which opened in 1989.

We want to hear from you.
