“Growing Greener Cities”; the woodland feel scheme is created with a matrix of grasses, perennials, shrubs, and bulbs with numerous trees blending in with European native species. Peach pits, hazelnut shells, almond pits are used to mulch the planting beds. Peach pits were also used as paving inspiring visitors to use materials in unusual ways.

Adam Hunt & Lulu Urquhart - Masseria Pistola

An Italian garden combining classical Mediterranean and English country design in garden rooms including a big open space for an event gazebo, a maze, a labyrinth, pergolas with a range of edible and floral climbers. The paths lead visitors in a way to create a level of privacy for the holiday homes.

A thought-provoking public space designed to demonstrate the positive impact of gardening and greenspaces in an increasingly stressful urbanised world. Changing perceptions of gardening from ‘nice to have’ to ‘being essential’ to connect people  with nature improving their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

An Islamic Garden for a UK climate that is open to all members of the community and is a place of beauty and contemplation within the hustle and bustle of the city. A garden with a jewel like palette of plants inspired by gardens across the Islamic world.

Andy Sturgeon FSGD - Battersea Power Station Roof Gardens

All the main gardens are designed without fences or boundaries so they read as one space even though some have private gardens within them. Respecting the heritage of the building and the constraints of the architecture was key to creating human scale spaces and environments on this very exposed site.

A water feature bowl offers sound and scent from evergreen jasmine and shrubs play an important role in the garden. Lighting is kept at minimum to avoid light pollution. 

Bowles & Wyer Principle Designer John Wyer FSGD - London West End Roof Garden

For biodiversity and sustainability, the  terraces and balconies around the building, due to a limited load-bearing ability, were made into green roofs as narrow strips of ‘urban meadow’ concentrating on pollinator and native species. The meadow and living wall used growing media made from crushed recycled brick and composted green waste.

Charlotte Rowe MSGD & Tomoko Kawauchi MSGD - Hampshire Garden

The outdoor swimming pool is the centrepiece surrounded by formal landscaping for dining and sitting terraces, pool house, raised vegetable beds, gravel pétanque court and natural play areas. The remaining 1.5 acre site is left natural with mown paths through long grass and established fruit trees.

Restored the Victorian character, respecting the site's history whilst creating a contemporary design, including a dining terrace, new planting, a meadow and orchard, a kitchen garden and a reconfigured swimming pool garden with pool house, with improved biodiversity and wildlife value through planting and management.

A plant focused garden, full of seasonal interest. Everywhere you look there are wonderful colours, textures, flowers, evergreens, bulbs, birds, and bees buzzing around. Towards the rear is a woodland garden, with an oak boardwalk to transport you through the trees and above the plants leading to a hidden Gazebo.

Log waves used to contribute to biodiversity, creating structure in the garden and subtly separating the different areas.

A sunken, cantilevered deck extending over the edge of the escarpment (Floating Deck), allows for stunning views across the valley providing the space for dining, entertaining and relaxing outside as a family. The escarpment is protected by local planning and is identified as an area of high biodiversity interest.

George Cullis MSGD - Chelsea Courtyard Garden

A calm, inviting, low maintenance space looking its best in spring and summer when the client is in residence. Hard materials and planting are light coloured reflecting internal walls as the garden is viewed from numerous vantage points in the house. Screening above the boundary wall and an evergreen backdrop to the rear wall give privacy.

Stefano Marinaz MSGD - New Beginnings: Church Barn

A new courtyard was added at the front of the property to create a sense of arrival. Different habitats introduced for plants and wildlife, log piles to improve biodiversity. A planting matrix was created of perennials, bulbs, and multi-stem trees to replace the lawn and permeable gravel has been used throughout the scheme.
