🤑 Sales forecasts are nice, but actual revenue is king. Here's a comparison of 2023 annual revenue for publicly traded AM hardware manufacturers. My observations: • Revenue growth is slightly decreasing for larger, generalist manufacturers, facing increased competition across the (many) market segments they serve. • Smaller, application-based manufacturers with a clear positioning tend to fare better with 2-digits revenue growth (eg. Voxeljet > molding, Massivit > LFAM, Nano Dimension > Electronics). • The "anomaly": Chinese metal AM giant BLT showing a strong 25% annual growth to reach $170M in annual revenue, a symbol of China's growing influence in the AM industry. This kind of chart needs to be put in perspective, since revenue ≠ profitability, and some of the biggest manufacturers are not public. But it's interesting to take a step back and look at the reality of the market. I am curious whether the coming months will see more IPOs ( 👀 BigRep, Formlabs) and/or an acceleration in M&As. Some key facts on the fast-changing ceramic AM landscape: • Additive manufacturing is increasingly used to produce stable and resilient technical ceramics parts, able to meet high industrial standards. • High-performance ceramics are lightweight and stable: they can withstand extreme mechanical, thermal and chemical stress. Here's our roundup: We constantly monitor the AM industry for product announcements in order to maintain our catalogs up to date. ⚡ Silicone AM showdown⚡ We've compared the 2 main processes for silicone 3D printing: MEX vs VPP. So, what's the verdict? We've just wrapped up a research study on silicone 3D printing, in collaboration with Lynxter SAS. The goal: comparing the two main processes for silicone AM: Material Extrusion (MEX) and Vat Photopolymerization (VPP). We also put additive in perspective vs conventional manufacturing of silicone parts. As in many cases with AM, there's not one clear winner and the choice between Material extrusion Vat Photopolymerization boils down to specific application needs. A quick summary of our findings: - MEX: ideal for high HSE standards, small to medium production series, and applications requiring durability. - VPP: Cost-efficient with a focus on surface finish, suitable for less demanding applications. We have just the fix you need: the full roundup of AM hardware announcements at Formnext 2023   [v2 UPDATE IN COMMENTS 📥 ] Last week was intense. We spent 3 full days roaming the floors of the infamous Hall 11 and 12 at Messe Frankfurt, tracking down all the latest releases from AM hardware manufacturers. One takeaway: in 2022, we listed 45 releases of industrial 3D printers at Formnext vs "only" 25 this year. This is in line with the overall trend in AM product releases this year, as AM sometimes struggles to find its place within the broader advanced manufacturing industry. Also interesting: industry consolidation is finally happening via M&As (though at a slower pace then anticipated). Two notable announcements were made at Formnext: - BigRep (LFAM) acquired Hage3D (High performance) - Nexa3D added Essentium to their portfolio (VPP, SLS, FFF) Overall, another great edition in the books.
