Chrissie Russell: Is €5,329 for a designer iron and ironing board worth it? Or just another example of appliance porn?

A “signature ironing system” from ironing experts Laurastar and Swiss designer Germanier

I pulled on a pair of pants recently and immediately realised something was amiss. Instead of my derriere feeling comfortably encased in my trusty VPL-banishing microfibre briefs, my bottom felt chilly. On removing the underwear I realised, with a sinking heart, that the seat was now a lattice of holes — another brave pair of knickers felled by my husband’s overzealous, maximum-heat approach to ironing.

Running the gauntlet with my delicates is the price I’m willing to pay for leaving the bulk of all ironing duties (surely the most tedious of household tasks) to my other half. But a more pressing question has to be: just what price would someone be willing to pay for an ironing board?
