Tim Cook visited the Shanghai-based game developer HoYoverse (formerly miHoYo) and met with its founder Liu Wei on Thursday, after the Apple CEO attended the China Development Forum in Beijing from March 25 to March 27. According to a post on Cook’s Weibo account, he had a “fun meeting with the creators behind award-winning iPhone and iPad games like Genshin Impact.” He also thanked “the phenomenal team at HoYoverse for showing me how you create immersive fantasy worlds for everyone to enjoy on the App Store.” HoYoverse’s open-world action role-playing game Genshin Impact was named by Apple as iPhone Game of the Year in 2020. This marked the first time that a Chinese developer had won one of the App Store’s “best apps of the year” awards. [IThome, in Chinese]
