PRESS RELEASE: Colorado Healthcare Leaders Applaud Governor Polis’s Grant Program to Support COVID-19 Vaccination

Denver, CO – The Colorado Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP), representing over 2,700 practicing primary care physicians, residents, and medical students, applauds and supports the new Colorado state grant program for primary care clinics to provide the COVID-19 vaccine at no cost to patients.

The $60 million COVID-19 Primary Care Vaccination Grant Program will provide Primary Care Providers (PCP) with up to $120,000 to support enrolling clinics to give the vaccine, purchasing equipment to safely store the vaccines, doing patient outreach and administering the vaccines directly to patients.

“The COPCPVax Grant Program makes a critical investment in primary care providers who we know are the most trusted source of vaccine information for patients,” said Dr. Craig Anthony, MD, President of the CAFP. “This grant ensures more patients will have easy access to the vaccine from their trusted healthcare provider.”

CAFP and partners in the Colorado healthcare community believe strongly in reducing barriers to vaccine access. We applaud the program providing direct grants to primary care clinics to cover expenses for staffing, engaging with patients, completing training, administering the vaccine and reporting.
