WHITTIER – Río Hondo College will welcome educational leader Dr. Marilyn Flores as its eleventh Superintendent/President with an installation ceremony filled with appetizers and drinks, honored guests and entertainment.

The outdoor event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 at the College’s upper quad breezeway of the L Tower. The Board of Trustees will be in attendance for the ceremony, which will feature remarks from Board President Vicky Santana, in addition to Director of Government and Community Relations Dr. Russell Castañeda-Calleros as the master of ceremonies, a welcome message from Río Hondo College Foundation President Bryan Tabizon, and Associated Students of Río Hondo College President Matthew De Haro who will lead the pledge of allegiance.

“It is truly an honor to be welcomed to the College and community with such an event – I’m humbled by the kindness I’ve received, and I look forward to meeting more community members during this installation ceremony,” Superintendent/President Dr. Marilyn Flores said. “This event will give me yet another opportunity to build bridges with Río Hondo College’s students and the community, and learn more about its culture.”

Flores was unanimously selected to lead the College, effective July 1, 2022. Her professional experience includes 25 years of educational work at institutions such as Santa Ana College, Santiago Canyon College, Las Positas College and Riverside City College. Flores holds a master’s degree in education from the University of California, Los Angeles as well as a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies and doctorate of philosophy in institutional leadership and policy studies from the University of California, Riverside.
