Paramount Pictures and Henry Golding unveil a new motion poster for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins and announce the trailer will arrive this Sunday. Written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and directed by Robert Schwentke, the film will explore the origin story of the titular ninja commando. Golding leads an ensemble cast that includes Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó as Baroness, Iko Uwais as Hard Master, and Peter Mensah as Blind Master.

After years of attempting to get a new installment in the live-action G.I. Joe film franchise, it was announced in May 2018 that Snake Eyes would be the next entry. With the film set to explore the origin story for the titular character, it was later announced that Ray Park, who portrayed Snake in previous films, would not reprise his role, and Golding signed on to star in August 2019. Much like many other films last year, the action blockbuster saw its release date delayed numerous times due to the global COVID-19 pandemic before settling on its current July 23 release date followed by a Paramount+ debut 45 days later.

Henry Golding has taken to Twitter to unveil the first motion poster from Snake Eyes showing the 34-year-old star as the titular hero. Golding also announced that the first trailer for the film will debut this Sunday at the MTV Movie and TV Awards. The motion poster can be viewed below:

Deciding to head back for an origin story to help softly reboot the G.I. Joe franchise is a smarter decision on Paramount's part. When the Transformers series was on its last legs, the step backward for the Hailee Steinfeld-led Bumblebee not only breathed new life into the franchise but also delivered the best-reviewed installment yet. Looking back at the prior two outings from the G.I. Joe series, the box office numbers were certainly promising but the reviews left many wondering if a brighter future would ever come for the films.

Whether audiences want to look at the project with a glass-half-full or half-empty mentality of how it can fix the franchise and clear the low bar set by its predecessors is certainly a valid debate. But from its thoroughly diverse cast, Golding's praise of the film's attention to cultural detail, and Paramount developing a sequel already with the actor returning, it seems audiences can put their faith in Snake Eyes when it arrives later this year. For now, fans can at least look forward to the arrival of the first trailer this Sunday during the MTV Movie and TV Awards.
