Public Policy Southampton (PPS) is proud to be heavily involved in the Climate Exp0 – the virtual conference from the COP26 Universities Network and the Italian University Network for Sustainable Development (RUS). Our very own Yaryna Basystyuk, Policy Engagement Manager at PPS and member of COP26 Steering Group, led the organisation of Nature-based Solutions day on behalf of the University of Southampton.

Climate Exp0 online conference took part between 17-21 May 2021, in the run-up to the 2021 UN Climate Change Summit (COP26) in November 2021. The programme featured five themes: Green Recovery, Nature-based Solutions, Mitigation Solutions, Adaptation and Resilience and Finance and regulations.

UoS academics and students contributed to the conference and played a vital role in organisation and delivery of Climate Exp0, discussing latest thinking, most relevant international climate change and policy research.

About Climate Exp0 and COP26 Universities Network

University of Southampton is proud to partner and support the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, Universities Network in organisation of UK Research and Innovation funded International Conference Climate Expo which will be held virtually between 17-21 May 2021, six month before the UN Climate Change Conference.

The COP26 Universities Network is a growing group of more than 55 UK-based universities working together to raise ambition for tangible outcomes from the UN COP26 Climate Change Conference (Glasgow, Scotland, November 2021).

In partnership with ‘Rete delle Universita’ per lo sviluppo Sostenibile (Italian University Network for Sustainable Development), sponsored by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and with support from the UN Climate Change Conference UK 2021 in Partnership with Italy and Cambridge University Press, Climate Exp0 will take place on 17 – 21 May 2021.

At a critical juncture in the COP26 pre-meetings and negotiations – six months prior to the conference itself – Climate Exp0 will showcase the latest thinking and most relevant UK and international research in the run-up to COP26 around five key themes: Adaptation and Resilience; Finance; Green Recovery; Mitigation Solutions; and Nature-based Solutions.

It will feature a range of speakers – from policymakers and academics, to practitioners and students and seeks to:

Raise the profile of key strategic themes and issues as evidenced through research;
Provide evidence to constituted bodies and policymakers;
Engage countries in building up their activity towards COP26;
Create a legacy for Universities and Research Centres in support of the climate change research agenda and of the UK’s role as host for COP26.
Online, free, and open to all, it’s an opportunity to connect policy, academic and student audiences across the globe, and harness the power of virtual collaboration to help advance a resilient, zero-carbon world.

About COP26

COP26 is the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference, scheduled to take place from 1 – 12 November in Glasgow.

The COP26 summit will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

About the COP26 Universities Network

The COP26 Universities Network is a growing group of more than 55 UK-based universities and research centres working together to raise ambition for tangible outcomes from the UN COP26 Climate Change Conference, to be held in Glasgow, Scotland in November 2021. The Network will create lasting partnerships and legacies that reach beyond this single event.

The Network's mission is to ensure that the UK academic sector plays its role in delivering a successful COP26, getting all players on track to deliver a zero-carbon, resilient world. They aim to do so by easing access to evidence and academic expertise for COP26 for government, NGOs, and other actors, and by taking action.
