Cannon adds firepower to County’s squad

We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Andy Cannon on loan for the remainder of the season from Championship side Hull City.

The 26-year-old has made ten appearances in the Championship for The Tigers this season after joining in the Summer from Portsmouth, scoring on his debut in a 4-1 win away at Preston North End on the opening day of the season.

Ashton-born Andy actually began his career at County in the Academy as far back as 2003, spending seven years here between the ages of 8-15, before having to leave when the Academy was closed due to the club entering administration.

He went on to make a name for himself at Rochdale in League One, making his debut for the Club in 2014 as a substitute against Leyton Orient. He went on to make over 100 appearances during his time at Spotland, where the highlight of his time there saw him named Man of the Match in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham in the FA Cup.

In 2019, Andy left Rochdale to sign for Portsmouth, making 29 appearances in his first season at South Coast club and helping them reach the play-off places.

He made a further 49 appearances in all competitions last season as the side finished eighth, with his performances in midfield doing enough to earn him a move to Hull following their League One title win.

Andy trained for the first time with his new teammates earlier today, and will be available for this weekend’s National League game away at Eastleigh.

Director of Football Simon Wilson said:

‘Andy is a player from the local area who knows already what this club is all about, and the journey that we’re on right now, and I’d like to welcome him to the Club. His addition will add further depth and quality to our first-team squad for the season run-in, as we look to secure promotion to the Football League.’
