NBC’s immensely successful drama series This Is Us will reportedly be coming to an end after the conclusion of its upcoming season 6. The series, which stars an ensemble cast led by Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, and Chrissy Metz, has won numerous awards, including multiple Emmys, and has been one of the most-watched shows on television since its first season. NBC has yet to announce an official premiere date for This Is Us season 6.

This Is Us tells the story of three adult siblings whose storylines intersect and diverge in different ways through the show. The characters deal with grounded problems tied to themes of family, parenthood, self-image, mental health, and finding purpose in middle-aged life. Critics have praised the series for its strong writing and emotional performances, both of which have helped elevate This Is Us to one of the most popular broadcast series of the modern era.

Sadly, that journey will soon be coming to an end. Per The Hollywood Reporter, This Is Us season 6 will be the show’s last outing on NBC. The series was renewed through the end of season 6 in 2019, and it appears that timeline is exactly what creator Dan Fogelman needed to tell the complete story. Hopefully, the planned ending will mean a full and satisfying conclusion for the fans to whom This Is Us has meant so much.

Though its tearjerker nature has been heavily memed, This Is Us remains one of the more successful and influential non-streaming shows in recent years. The delicate handling of complex, emotional adult storylines has earned it justified praise across the board, and it’s launched a number of actors into the spotlight of superstardom. Sterling K. Brown has earned particular praise for his performance as Randall Pearson, which earned him an Emmy win in 2017.

If season 6 was written with the end in mind – likely given how Fogelman has previously discussed the overarching story – This Is Us has a real chance to end as strong as it started. The show’s earnest, vulnerable brand of relationship-focused drama isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s been the perfect fit for a large audience of dedicated fans. With luck, NBC will announce the show’s official return date in the near future. After that, it’s just a matter of stockpiling tissues and counting the days until the This Is Us series finale.
