Some sad news to report today, as it has been confirmed that former NHLer Bryan Watson passed away at the age of 78.

After three years of junior hockey with the Peterborough Petes, Watson went on to play 877 NHL games split between the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Oakland Seals, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and the Washington Capitals. In those 877 games the rugged defenceman scored 17 goals and 152 points while racking up 2212 penalty minutes.

Once his playing career finished in 1979, he got into coaching for a brief period of time. He began the 1980-81 season as the assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers but was shortly after promoted to head coach to close out the year. In 18 games as the team's head coach they went 4-9-5 in what turned out to be his last time behind any bench. Once done coaching, he and his wife Lindy opened up a pizza outlet in Alexandria, Virginia. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time.
