A geometric wonder, this home built in Swanbourne by Weststyle towers over three levels and features striking lines and elements.

Weststyle Managing Director Tony Ricciardello said despite the small 306sqm block and a 10.5m height restriction in the area, the final result was a generous and bright home.

“The design is urban and modern – a juxtaposition of contemporary boxy shapes using a heavy, dark face brick and texture on the ground level to give the illusion of a lighter and brighter second storey floating above,” he said.

“The entrance courtyard maintains geometric forms within the exposed concrete and houses a feature tree within a contrasting circle.

“Through the oversized glass pivot entry door, the void space is generous and fills the home with natural light.”

Mr Ricciardello said the clients were a design-savvy semi-retired couple, and it was important for the home to be low maintenance with lock-up-and-leave capabilities. A lift was also installed to future-proof the home.

“Also part of the brief were sustainability elements,” he said.

“Weststyle adopted core principles of passive solar design to enhance internal climate stability and natural ventilation. Low-e glass was utilised, as well as extra shading of the eastern-facing windows.”

The home’s tones are primarily monochromatic with bright pops of colour. A Mondrian influence can also be seen in the composition of coloured glass panels at the entrance.

“The tangerine colour has been extracted from this feature, brightened and applied to the external horizontal element and window surround,” he said.

Truly the hero of the design, the main area of the home seamlessly flows across an open-plan layout and provides ample space for the clients to both relax and entertain comfortably.

The kitchen is a gateway to even more natural lighting, thanks to the glass splashback framed by ample storage.

Primarily adorned in dark tones to amplify a soft sophistication, the porcelain island bench takes the lead and adds an interest point to this zone. Sleek and soft-toned, this addition provides extra space for both casual dining and meal preparation.

Just across the way is the lounge area which leads directly outdoors, and is just the beginning of the home’s many outdoor living opportunities.

Looking up from the dining area, you will see the glass-bottom rooftop pool, which has been designed to allow sunlight to filter through.

“Two flights of floating timber stairs leads you to the rooftop terrace, which makes you feel like you’re perched in the clouds,” Mr Ricciardello said.

“It is a generous space for entertaining and enjoying a dip in the plunge pool.”

This entertainer’s dream features space to lounge around beside the pool, with umbrellas for protection, and plenty of space to dine with family and friends while watching the sun go down.
