Gackt to Go on Indefinite Hiatus

The singer of Kamen Rider Decade‘s opening ceases all entertainment activities indefinitely due to vocal-related disability.

On September 7th, 2021 it was announced that Gackt would take an “indefinite hiatus” for all entertainment activities. Dysphonia, as well as other lifelong health complications, were cited as reasons. His doctor has diagnosed him as being unable to work. It was also noted at one point that he lost 10 kilos in weight.

Gackt had been touring nationwide until July. Following that, he had a regular Saturday broadcast on NicoNico Live, however those stopped as well on August 14th due to poor health.

Gackt commented,

“I’ve worried everyone.

Thank you for all of your messages.

I’m alright! Still alive.

It’s been difficult to talk, much less sing.

I’m not sure how long I’ll be inactive,

but I’ll do my best to come back as soon as I can.

I’m sorry for worrying everyone. I’ll come back a stronger and better Gackt!”

Gackt is known for performing the Kamen Rider Decade opening theme, “Journey Through the Decade”,  as well as “The Next Decade” and “Stay the Ride Alive” for the movies Kamen Rider Decade: All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker and Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider W & Decade: Movie War 2010 respectively. He also portrayed Noir in the Indonesian tokusatsu BIMA Satria Garuda.
