LONG ISLAND, NY — Labor Day Weekend was beautiful, but that streak of pleasant weather isn't going to hold out much longer. There's the potential of heavy rain in the area this week, and it could bring flash floods and deadly surf with it.

Tuesday is going to be just as warm and sunny as the long weekend was. But starting Wednesday, the weather is going to turn. According to the National Weather Service, there's a chance of rain during the day on Wednesday. But Wednesday night is likely to bring thunderstorms to the area, and they could drop a lot of rain.

The NWS said the storm could drop a half inch to up to an inch of rain on some areas, creating localized flash flooding. The ground is still saturated from Ida, so water from Wednesday's storm won't have anywhere to go.

The rain is likely to continue into Thursday as well. After that, though, the skies will clear and things will be beautiful again.

In addition to the storm, Hurricane Larry is churning in the South Atlantic. Although the storm itself isn't likely to hit Long Island, its winds will create dangerous surf conditions in our area. The swells are likely to get to us mid-week, according to the NWS, and stay for the rest of the week. The swells are likely to cause life-threatening surfs and rip currents.
