Fans were shocked to learn earlier this week that Supergirl's upcoming sixth season will be its last, bringing the fan-favorite Arrowverse series to a close next year. Premiering on CBS in 2015 before moving to The CW, the first five seasons had Kara Zor-El adjust to life working for the news media corporation CatCo under her civilian identity as Kara Danvers while balancing her superhero responsibilities as Supergirl. Before Kara and this expansive cast close out their six-season run, there are some major things the series needs to accomplish before it comes to an end.

Having just been merged with the rest of the Arrowverse, it would be a shame if Supergirl's final season didn't take advantage of this development in some way. Kara and her friends could see allies and enemies from Gotham, Central and Star City make an appearance. And with Supergirl forming close friendships with Barry Allen and Kate Kane, Kara should enjoy one last race with The Flash while reacting to someone replacing Kate as Batwoman over in Gotham.

Of course, Kara's cousin Kal-El and his wife Lois Lane should also be included since the pair will get get their own series in the upcoming Superman & Lois. Tyler Hoechlin's portrayal of Superman had begun as a guest starring role in the Supergirl Season 2 premiere and any absence by him and Lois would feel especially glaring as the series moves towards its finale. While Supergirl's 100th episode had brought in many familiar faces, this concept should be expanded across the entire sixth season (not unlike Arrow's own final season), bringing back many fan-favorite characters that have since been written out of the show, with Winn Schott, James Olsen and Cat Grant being the individuals that could benefit from a return to National City the most.

Additionally, there's the matter of the various characters' futures in the Arrowverse. While the series is wrapping up, it should leave the door open for Kara's potential return. Unlike Oliver Queen, Kara shouldn't meet her untimely end by the series' conclusion. Judging by co-star Nicole Maines' comments regarding the future for her character Dreamer after the finale announcement, there may be plans in place for Supergirl spinoffs beyond Superman & Lois, potentially focused on Dreamer and other characters linked to the D.E.O. as it continues to defend the world from extraordinary threats, especially after the Girl of Steel's eventual departure.

In the span of two years, the Arrowverse will lose the two series that helped launch it to millions of fans worldwide. While the announcement of the series' end is a shock, it gives the creative team an entire season to take Kara on one last tour, making sure to include the series' extensive cast and fan-favorite elements to give the iconic superhero the final bow she deserves. This may be the end of Kara's time in the solo spotlight, but hopefully it will not be the end for her and the other characters' activities in the Arrowverse beyond the series finale.

Returning to The CW in mid-2021 for its final season, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Nicole Maines as Dreamer, Jesse Rath as Brainiac-5 and more.
