SEE: Sunol Wildfire Burns 57 Acres

SUNOL, CA — Favorable wind conditions Thursday afternoon should allow crews with Cal Fire and the Alameda County Fire Department to soon put a stop to the forward progress of the Calaveras Fire in Sunol, officials said in an update.

The fire burning near the 8600 block of Calaveras Road was 40 percent contained at 57 acres as of 5 p.m. Thursday, Cal Fire reported at 5 p.m., the most recent information readily available.

Firefighters first reported the vegetation fire was 2 to 3 acres around 2:15 p.m., in the area of Calaveras and Welch Creek roads. By 3:30 p.m., the wildfire was 30 to 35 acres and 10-percent contained, officials with Alameda County Fire reported.

The blaze was "backing uphill," and no evacuation orders have been issued, according to Alameda County Fire.
