After spending over a decade in Primary and Music classrooms, Grace Moore has developed her proven “Dots & Squiggles Piano” method. This holistic approach to music education develops a child’s musicality, while also honing the essential skills of rhythm, notation, and theory. Grace creates imaginative themed programs to allow children as young as 3 to play piano keyboard. She has written eight levels of music books, taking children from toddlerhood to Grade 1 Piano. Her method has been used in small groups, peripatetic and whole class sessions with high levels of engagement, achievement, and retention across all platforms.

Sessions taught using the Dots & Squiggles method have been described as “A fantastic learning, development and above all enjoyable experience” (customer satisfaction survey 2021). In this four-part CPD session, join Grace as she shares her wealth of knowledge and skills that will get you excited to implement the Dots & Squiggles method in your classroom.

  • Session 1: Grace will demonstrate a model lesson using the Dots & Squiggles method, discussing key aspects of effective music sessions. Grasp the basics of piano keyboard and pre-stave reading yourself, while also learning the methodology best suited to teach piano keyboard to young learners.
  • Session 2: The World of Rhythm: Rhythm is one of the easiest concepts for young learners to grasp. Grace will demonstrate using word-rhythms, games and singing activities, leaving you confident to create lessons bespoke to your topic that will engage and excite.
  • Session 3: Developing aural skills, Graphic Scores, Music Theory and Keyboard skills.
  • Session 4: Opening the world of composition. A session demonstrating way to have even the youngest writing their own meaningful and high-quality songs for percussion and keyboard.

All sessions will have strong links to the National Curriculum. Some resources will be provided.
