PM Viktor Orbán: Hungary also opposes the creation of the Super League

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes in the unity of sports at a European level, as well as in the principle of solidarity, and welcomes European football organization UEFA’s strong opposition to plans to create a European Super League, the prime minister's press chief told MTI on Monday.

Hungary is convinced that the beauty and grandeur of the world’s greatest game lie in the fact that it belongs to everyone, and the rich cannot appropriate it for themselves, the Hungarian prime minister underlined.

He stated that Hungary supports UEFA and FIFA, as well as Hungarian Football Federation MLSZ, in order to protect the integrity of federal competitions, both at the national and European level.

The European Federation (UEFA), along with its member associations of England, Italy and Spain, condemned the creation of the Super League on Sunday, even before the official announcement. UEFA envisages severe sanctions, saying it will do its utmost to prevent the launch of the new tournament. In addition to UEFA and FIFA, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron have also criticized the creation of the Super League.
