Limpopo: Malatsi and Gana to run for education

Former Democratic Alliance National Spokesperson, Solly Malatsi, together with DA Gauteng Member of Provincial Legislature, Makashule Gana will run 500km from Soweto to Tzaneen.

POLOKWANE – Former Democratic Alliance National Spokesperson, Solly Malatsi, together with DA Gauteng Member of Provincial Legislature, Makashule Gana, will be running 500km to raise money for underprivileged learners in Limpopo.

Malatsi, who grew up in Ga-Dikgale, outside Mankweng, told CV that the initiative aims to raise R500 000 to be distributed among schools in the province.

The duo will run 500km from Soweto to Tzaneen between July 26 and August 8, averaging 35km a day. Malatsi, an ardent runner, says both him and Gana are passionate about opening doors of opportunity in education for poor learners.

“Both of us know the struggle with regards to a lack of proper school uniform and shoes. We also know the pain and shame that many female learners endure when they have to miss school during their menstruation cycles. Statistically, one in 10 girls miss a day of school monthly during their periods because they can’t afford sanitary pads. We are leveraging our bodies to make a difference in this regard,” the duo said.

Malatsi called on individuals and businesses wishing to make a contribution to donate to the cause, to deposit into the following account: SM Legacy NPC (FNB: Cheque account: 62711941006).
