Snow-related parking bans, closures and cancellations for the Fall River area

FALL RIVER — The following parking bans, closures and cancellations have been announced regarding the impending snowstorm. 

The National Weather Service has increased its snowfall prediction for a storm that's expected to hit the region early Friday, saying it will likely drop 6 to 8 inches of snow on the region.

The Weather Service has also upgraded a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning for southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, from 1 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday. A winter storm warning is issued when 6 inches of snow is expected in the next 12 hours or 8 inches is expected in 24 hours.

The snow should arrive between 3 and 5 a.m. and could fall at rates of 1 inch per minute over the Route 95 corridor between 6 and 9 a.m., according to the Weather Service.

Parking bans

Fall River: A parking ban is in effect from 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, until further notice. Saving parking spots by placing furniture or household objects in the street is prohibited by law. Parking is available at the following locations until the ban is no longer in effect: Flint Municipal Parking Lot on Cash Street; Municipal Parking Lot on Columbia Street; Talbot Middle School on Melrose Street; Morton Middle School Parking Lot on Hood Street

Swansea: Parking ban will be in effect Jan. 7 from 1 a.m. until 8 p.m. 

Tiverton: Parking ban will be in effect from 10 p.m. Jan. 6 until further notice.

Somerset: Parking ban will be in effect from Thursday, Jan. 6, at 11 p.m. until Friday, Jan. 7, at 11 p.m.

School cancellations

Swansea Public Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 7.

Somerset and Somerset Berkley public schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 7.

Tiverton Public Schools will have a distance learning day on Friday, Jan. 7

St. Philomena School will have a snow day Friday, Jan. 7

Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School will be closed Friday, Jan. 7, with no afternoon activities.

Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District will have no school Friday, Jan. 7. 

Westport Community Schools will be closed Friday, with no afternoon activities or extended day.

Bristol County Agricultural High School will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7.

Montessori School of the Angels will be closed Friday.

Holy Name School will be closed Friday.

East Gate Christian Academy will be closed Friday.

Espirito Santo School will be closed Friday (traditional snow day).

Bishop Stang High School will be closed, but it will be a SAL day.

Bishop Connolly High School will be closed Friday, but it will be a SAL day.

Fall River Public Schools will be closed Friday for a traditional snow day.

Argosy Collegiate will be closed Friday.

Atlantis Charter School will be closed Friday.

Holy Trinity School will be closed Friday.

UMass Dartmouth will be closed Friday.

Bristol Community College will be closed Friday.

Bridgewater State University will be closed Friday.

Massasoit Community College will be closed Friday.

Freetown-Lakeville Public Schools will be closed Friday.

Rob Roy Academy (Fall River) will be closed Friday.

Little Compton Public Schools will be distance learning Friday; staff remote/custodians report.

Closures

Somerset Public Library will be closed Friday, Jan. 7, and Saturday, Jan. 8, and will reopen Monday, Jan. 10.

Fall River Government Center will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7

The Fall River DPW facility at Lewiston Street will be closed Friday, Jan. 7

The Fall River Main Library and all branches will be closed Friday, Jan. 7

Westport Town Hall, Annex, Senior Center and library will be closed Friday, Jan. 7.

Highland Adult Day Care will be closed Jan. 7

Children's Museum of Greater Fall River will be closed Jan. 7

Bristol Elder Services Inc. will have no Meals on Wheels on Friday.

Tiverton Library will be closed Friday. 

SSTAR: No in-person services Friday; Inpatient and Lifeline open.

First Friday adoration at St. Patrick Church in Somerset is canceled for Friday.

J.E. Boyd Center for Child Care in Fall River is closed Friday.

Future Scholars Preschool in Tiverton is closed Friday.

Sakonnet Early Learning Center in Tiverton is closed Friday.

Early Minds Child Care in Swansea is closed Friday.

Happy Feet Preschool in Swansea is closed Friday.

Ninth Street Day Nursery in Fall River is closed Friday.

Trash pickup

Fall River: Friday's trash pickup will be delayed until Saturday.
