Temporary Tax Specialist Job Announcement

The Women’s Building offers free basic tax return every year through the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and this year we’ll continue to do so with the appropriate social distancing regulations and protocols due to Covid-19. The following procedures of the plan will be presented to the In House Organizations as well as to the staff and volunteers of TWB.

We are aiming to do 450 tax returns this year for qualified individuals. The VITA program is offered to people who generally make $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. In addition to VITA, The Women’s Building offers them the opportunity to connect with a variety of other social services, such as the financial coaching program, food pantry, benefit applications assistance, and more.

Reports to: The Tax Specialist will report to the Programs Director.

Objective: The Tax Specialist in conjunction with the Tax Program Coordinator is responsible for the execution of the Tax
Program. They ensure IRS/VITA compliance of all volunteers and provide support to all persons. They participate or hold
required training and meetings.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Address any tax related questions or concerns clients may have
  • Perform quality assurance checks for the taxes completed by the Tax Program Volunteers
  • Ensure that tax returns are filed in accordance with tax authorities
  • Assist with yearly tax volunteer orientation and trainings
  • Attending and participate in required IRS and VITA site meetings
  • Troubleshoot any issues that may arise

Qualifications:

  • Licenses/Certifications: CTEC Certified or Licensed CPA
  • Experience: 2 years
  • Knowledge/Skills:
    • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Punctual, reliable, and highly organized
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Acute attention to detail
  • Other:
    • Ability to work on-site
    • Ability to remain in stationary, sitting or standing positions for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.

    Employment:

    Temporary, from January 1, 2022 to April 30, 2022.

    Rate of Pay:

    $35.00/hour

    Hours:

    • Varies in January.
    • Starting February through April Thursdays 5-9pm and Saturdays 9am-3pm.
    • Maximum 10 hours per week.
