The police department in Crowley, LA used the siren from The Purge horror movie franchise as a curfew warning for its coronavirus (COVID-19) quarantine.
According to Variety, police drove around the city's Acadia Parish airing the siren to signal the start of the curfew that runs from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Residents were said to find the sound "eerily familiar."
"Last night a 'Purge Siren' was utilized by the Crowley Police Department as part of their starting curfew. We have received numerous complaints with the belief that our agency was involved in this process. We were not involved in the use of the 'Purge Siren' and will not utilize any type of siren for this purpose," Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson said in a statement to the Louisiana news station KATC.

Police Chief Jimmy Broussard also told KATC that he wasn't aware the siren was from The Purge, and won't utilize a similar siren in the future.
The Purge is a series of movies and television shows that feature all crimes being made legal during a 12-hour window. With it being a horror franchise, the majority of crimes committed during "The Purge" are of the violent variety.
