Portsmouth mourn the death of former midfielder Bobby Kellard

He died today ‘peacefully’ after suffering a stroke in February 2020.

The Londoner made 176 appearances for Pompey over two spells and scored 18 goals.

He moved from Ipswich in March 1966, before joining Bristol City in July 1968 for a reported £30,00.

The combative midfielder then returned to Fratton Park in December 1972, following moves to Leicester and Crystal Palace.

His second spell on the south coast was cut short, however, in February 1975 following a bitter falling out with then manager Ian St John.

Confirming the news in a message to Pompey fans, Bobby’s son, Robert, said: It’s with great sadness that I must inform you that my father, Bobby Kellard, passed away peacefully this morning after struggling all year after having a stroke last Feb.

‘I managed to get him home for two weeks over xmas, we watched football and had a couple of winners on the horses, just like old times.

‘Thank you for your support throughout the year.

‘Dad really enjoyed it when I read your messages to him.

‘Good luck this afternoon against another of his former clubs. PUP.’
