Illfonic's PC and PS4 asymmetrical action game Predator: Hunting Grounds is the studio's follow-up to Friday the 13th, a game whose support was cut short by an ongoing rights lawsuit. But while Friday the 13th is, for all intents and purposes, dead, Predator is only just beginning. This weekend, the game is hosting a free trial for players on PS4 and PC so they can see what the 4v1 action is all about.

Unfortunately, like the Friday the 13th beta (and the eventual finished product) the matchmaking times for the Predator: Hunting Grounds trial are a little longer. From personal experience, it's possible to wait upwards of 5-10 minutes to get into a lobby and usually not a full one.

Illfonic confirmed that it had heard reports of the Predator: Hunting Grounds matchmaking issues but has no update about if a fix is in the works yet. The studio did add a message to the bottom of the game client, though, so players are well aware before they try to matchmake.

With games that are focused on a 4v1 concept or asymmetrical multiplayer (like Dead by Daylight), it's common to have to wait through extended queue times. Most players, especially new players, want to control the more exciting playable character in the multiplayer, which in this case is the titular Predator. As a result, players that try to queue with the Predator as their preference are likely to experience longer wait times. Even then, this writer still had long matchmaking times when queuing to be part of the first person shooter fireteam, so it may not be just that.

The good news is that this is just a trial for Predator: Hunting Grounds and Illfonic is likely holding the test in order to discover issues like these. The only hope is that the game sees some drastic improvements before launch, unlike Friday the 13th.

Predator: Hunting Grounds releases April 24, 2020 for PC and PS4.
