Sold South: A Brief History of the Domestic Slave Trade in America
About the Discussion
In the decades after the closing of the legal transatlantic slave trade in 1808, a domestic trade in enslaved people boomed in the United States for more than half a century. In this presentation, Joshua D. Rothman will describe the ebbs and flows of the domestic slave trade over time, explore some of the myths about the trade, and examine its impact on the lives of those trafficked in this forced migration.
