Marvel Cinematic Universe star Mark Ruffalo, who has played Bruce Banner aka The Incredible Hulk for a decade, defended the sprawling franchise by calling out Star Wars.

"It’s not something I worry about," responded Ruffalo when asked by Metro if he's concerned about Marvel's increased production slate. "I understand that these things run their course and then something else comes along," continued the actor, who goes on to praise the studio for allowing directors and actors to reinterpret the source material in "their own style, their likeness." To reinforce his point, Ruffalo set his sites on another Disney-owned property: Star Wars.

"If you watch a Star Wars, you’re pretty much going to get the same version of Star Wars each time," Ruffalo said. "It might have a little bit of humor. It might have a little bit of different animation. But you’re always, really, in that same kind of world. But with Marvel you can have a whole different feeling, even within the Marvel Universe."

Hulk v. She-Hulk

While Ruffalo may not have been the first actor to play the MCU's Hulk, he's been the face of Bruce Banner in multiple major Marvel Studios projects including The Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He'll be turning green once again in the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where he's expected to help protagonist Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) come to terms with her superpowers.

Speaking about Ruffalo's participation in the series, head writer Jessica Gao and director Kat Coiro revealed that the chemistry he shared with Maslany prompted the creative team to adjust certain parts of the script. "When we watched [them], it really felt like, 'Oh, you are cousins who have been bickering for years at every family reunion,'" said Gao. Coiro added that the way the performers were able to play off one another led to the creation of more scenes that included them together, resulting in one of the montages which appeared in the show's first trailer.

Ruffalo has shared nothing but praise for his She-Hulk co-star, noting that he's giving Maslany the proverbial torch. "Tatiana Maslany is frickin' legendary as the She-Hulk," Ruffalo said. "I'm passing the banner onto her... There's some really good, funny, cool, long, long scenes between Professor [Hulk] and her."
