Architectural Designer Creates Images Of An Utopian Future In Which Buildings Can Breathe And Grow (15 Pics)
Manas Bhatia, an architectural designer based in India, has created some brilliant surreal images of utopian buildings using AI tools. The symbiotic structures imagined by the designer are made of giant hollow redwood trees and they can breathe and grow.
In an interview with DeMilked, Manas revealed that he has been exploring several AI tools since 2020 and he started using AI text-to-image tools like “midjourney” earlier this year.
“The idea behind this exploration was to firstly touch upon the experiences we all have shared with nature. Like cherishing the share of the tree on a sunny day, sitting with a newspaper in a courtyard under a tree, or just loitering around in the park observing the colour of the leaves,” he says “And continuing with this idea, came the vision a ‘utopian future’ in which buildings are not machines made from concrete or steel, instead, are live and can grow and breathe.” Check out some of his amazing works in the gallery below.

Talking about his inspiration for these designs, the designer said, “I have always been fascinated by how small insects and creatures create their dwellings in nature. Ants for example create their dwellings with intricate networks in the soil. If humans could create buildings that grow and breathe like plants do, what an amazing world would that be to live in.”

Manas also shared his creative process with us. He says, “Any good design generally starts with a hand sketch or a digital sketch, which is then refined using computational methods. With AI programs like midjourney this process is cut short. The keywords that define one’s concept or design idea can be fed to AI to produce imagery. AI solves a major issue, that is ‘thought to execution delay’ as it provides a much faster way to conceptualize and test multiple design ideas to arrive at the best possible solution.”

In the end, the designer added, “The future seems quite promising with the integration of technology like AI into architecture and design.”
