LA VERNE/SAN DIMAS – San Dimas High School achieved its highest Advanced Placement (AP) test pass rate in school history during the 2021-22 school year, reflecting the school’s commitment to fostering academic achievement and preparing students for the rigor of higher education.

San Dimas High School students collectively earned a pass rate of 68.2% during the first full year of in-person instruction following the COVID-19 pandemic. The average national pass rate is 60.5%.

“I’m incredibly proud of our Saints for reaching this milestone, especially after overcoming the academic and social challenges of the last few years,” San Dimas High School Assistant Principal Jack Nance said. “I cannot wait to see what new academic milestones our students will reach in the years to come.”

Administered by the College Board, the AP program provides high school students the opportunity to take rigorous, college-level courses in a variety of subjects. Students can also earn college credit at four-year institutions for passing AP tests – which can help alleviate tuition costs, provide flexibility to earn a second degree, pursue study abroad and internship opportunities, or allow a student to graduate early.

San Dimas High offers AP courses in 20 subjects: physics, biology, chemistry, environmental science, U.S. history, government, world history, human geography, psychology, microeconomics, calculus AB and BC, statistics, language and literature, computer science and computer science principles, French, Spanish and art.

The AP program is one element of the school’s college readiness efforts, which helped earn San Dimas High recognition as a top-performing school in the 2022 Best High Schools rankings by U.S. News & World Report. Graduates have gone on to attend prestigious institutions across the state and the country, including USC, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Duke University, University of Chicago and more.

“San Dimas High School truly embodies the District’s core values of equity, mastery and a focus on results,” Bonita Unified Acting Superintendent Matt Wien said. “From being a California Distinguished School to being named one of the country’s most challenging high schools, San Dimas High continues to inspire students to reach new levels of excellence. Congratulations to our students and staff on this exciting achievement.”
