Fr. John Kowalczyk

Fr. John is the Proistamenos at St. Michael's Orthodox Church in Jermyn, PA. He continues to serve as Head Chaplain in the forensic unit of a maximum-security prison, SCI Waymart, in Pennsylvania, a position he has held for 24 years. In addition, he has served as Director of Field Education Studies at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary since 1987, bringing seminarians to minister in the maximum-security prison.

Philoptochos will host the event by serving light refreshments. Please join Fr. Stephen and Fr. John to learn more about OCPM and the methods used to proclaim the love of Christ to those who are incarcerated.

Please join us on August 26, 2022, at 7:00 PM in the multipurpose room as our guests, Father Stephen Powley and Father John Kowalczyk from Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry (OCPM), will lead an engaging presentation and discussion offering insights into its mission of visiting and serving those in prison and their families. OCPM is an agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States and is the national prison ministry of the Orthodox Church. For Orthodox Christians who have been arrested for crimes, OCPM helps them return to the Faith, offering forgiveness and reconciliation with Christ. For both Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike, OCPM provides spiritual care, enabling prisoners to find hope and purpose in their lives.
