Arua to honour ex-OWC co-ordinator Obiale

Arua district council will hold a special council sitting to pay tribute to deceased West Nile region Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) co-ordinator Col. (rtd) Nelson Obiale.

The council is expected to sit on Friday, April 12, 2024, at his ancestral home in Alaa low village in Anzuu Offa, Vurra sub-county, Arua district.

Obiale is expected to be laid to rest the following day, according to a programme from the family and the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF).

Reports also indicate that the army will take charge of the burial and ensure that he is buried in the military way.

Obiale's body is still in Kampala with a requiem mass held at Okuvu Church of Uganda in Mbuya on Tuesday evening.

A vigil is expected to be held at Okuvu Church today, the body will be transferred to the residence of Arua Woman MP Lillian Paparu Obiale at Kiti on Kasangati-Matugga road for service at 1:00pm. Thereafter, the body will leave Kampala for the ancestral home in Arua.

Arua LC5 chairperson Alfred Okuonzi said the district will have a special council sitting to honour and pay tribute to Obiale at his home in Alaa low village in Anzuu Offa, in Vurra sub-county.

Obiale died on Monday at about 9:30am at the Uganda Cancer Institute in Kampala after being hospitalised.

He is survived by eight children, six girls and two boys. Among them is Arua District Woman MP Lillian Paparu O’biale, Mengo High Court Circuit chief magistrate Dorcus Zako and petroleum engineer Tonny Ddungu Ssunna.
