A Personal Note from Jesse

Every 7-10 years, the human body is completely new. Every cell in our skin, muscles, organs and bones is rebuilt; a cousin to the skin, muscles, organs, bones of the past.

There are moments in my life where this fact anchors me. The reality is that change is the only constant - we are dynamic beings who grow and shift and change all the time. Personally, I have had stretches of time in my life where the change is slow and subtle, and others when I wake up and look around me only to find that little is familiar.

I have found myself in one of those moments now - a "moment" that has spanned two years of change and newness, and with it feelings of peace, excitement, gratitude...and also loss.

The pandemic sparked a reckoning for so many of us. I've thought often of that famous line from Mary Oliver's poem, "Tell me what is it you plan to do / With your one wild, precious life?" (read the full poem here). We faced our fragile mortality and many of us asked that question as we looked around at the life we were leading. What stayed? What did we let go?

For me and Dr. Barrett, we examined how our business supported us in living the wild, precious life we wanted. And we also looked at how it got in the way of doing so. In those conversations, we had to accept that our paths were diverging, and it was time to let our partnership go.

With my heart overflowing with love and appreciation for Dr. Barrett and everything we built together, I will be leaving Wellness Minneapolis at the end of this year. Dr. Barrett will take the helm of this beautiful ship and use it to further the reaches of naturopathic medicine in Minnesota. I will continue to support her and cheer her on from the sidelines. She is the most brilliant and driven person I know - there is not a trace of doubt in my mind that Wellness Minneapolis has a bright future ahead in her care.

What's next for me?

This fall, I proudly joined the nutrition team at Penny George Institute for Health and Healing at Allina. Penny George is the largest integrative health care center affiliated with a hospital system in the country. I've had my eyes on them since they opened in 2003 and feel honored to be invited to join in their efforts of bringing integrative medicine into the mainstream.

I will also continue seeing clients for functional nutrition and health coaching privately through my virtual practice. If you choose to remain subscribed, you'll continue to hear from me in a monthly newsletter. And you can stay in touch with me via Instagram by following @jessehaasnutrition - my content includes lots of food memes, photos of my pup Piper and practical tips on utilizing the wisdom of food as medicine - from my kitchen to yours.

While this is a change, it is not an end. One thing that is not changing: our dedication to scientific, compassionate, realistic health care. I hope you'll stay connected with me, Dr. Barrett and Wellness Minneapolis into this bright new future.

Wishing you a wild, precious life full of joy, opportunity and peace,

Jesse Haas, CNS, LN
