Three-Time Olympian And Global Medalist Dies At 29 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Deon Lendore, the 2014 Bowerman Award winner from Texas A&M, and a three-time Olympian for his native Trinidad & Tobago, died in a car accident Monday. Lendore, who was a volunteer assistant coach at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, was on his way home from practice when the accident happened. Lendore was one of two people killed in a multiple vehicle collision north of Houston. A woman driving a pick-up truck in an oncoming lane lost control and crossed the median and hit the car that Lendore was driving. The woman also died. Lendore was at last month's Bowerman Award ceremony and spoke to DyeStat's Todd Grasley. INTERVIEW Lendore ran a lifetime-best 400 meters in 44.36 at the 2014 SEC Outdoor Championships and was the 2014 NCAA champion in the 400 meters and 4x400 relay. He made his first big splash on the international scene in 2012 in London, anchoring Trinidad & Tobago to a bronze medal in the 4x400 relay. He helped his nation take silver at the 2015 World Championships in the relay and also was part of bronze medal performances at the 2016 World Indoor Championships in Portland. He earned bronze medals in the open 400 at Portland in 2016 and Birmingham in 2018. “Words cannot adequately express our sadness at the devastating and untimely loss of three-time Olympian and Olympic and World Championship bronze medalist Deon Lendore who has been an inspiration and motivation to us all both on and off the track," Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee president Brian Lewis said.
