Drag Race UK’s Pixie Polite is reclaiming the power after online abuse
Exclusive: Speaking to Attitude the latest eliminee addresses her fall during her last lip sync.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK‘s Pixie Polite says she’s taking the power back after getting abuse from the Drag Race fandom.
After being eliminated in the semi-finals Pixie says she’s “reclaiming” the idea of being “the villain of the series” after being subjected to online hate during the series.
Speaking to Attitude Tea Time with her ex (Tia Kofi) Pixie discusses posting a photo shoot of her punk look from the show and using some of the negative comments in the background as a way of taking power back.
“It’s very punk, I think, to just throw up a middle finger to the haters.”
Pixie then opens up about taking a break from social media after an “overwhelming amount of abuse” from Drag Race fans who blamed her for Dakota Schiffer being sent home a couple of weeks ago.
“That’s when it really started to come at me,” says Pixie. “Full steam ahead. At-ing me on Twitter, in the DMs, in the comments. It was difficult but I knew that give it a few days it would all blow over. You’ve just got to make a joke out of it. So, why not?”
She also addresses her onstage fall during the lipsync against Black Peppa in the most recent episode of the series.
Pixie says she’s proud of herself for going up against Peppa, who’s been ranked as the “lip sync assassin” of the series.
“It was very intimidating but watching it back I was very pleased, pleasantly surprised one might say about how I did.”
Pixie also says she stands by a lot of her jokes from the comedy roast challenge.
“At the beginning of the challenge I felt quite confident because everyone else was telling me I shouldn’t be confident. So, I was like, ‘Ok, I guess I’m going to do well la-dee-da-dee-da’. And then it got to it and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m not good at this’.
But she was able to laugh at herself when watching it back. Adapting one of RuPaul’s catchphrases Pixie adds, “If you can’t laugh at yourself, how in the hell are you going to laugh at anybody else!”
The grand finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series four will air on BBC Three and the Player on Thursday, 24 November at 9 pm.
