Bull hippos frequently open their mouths wide as a show of dominance. But you’d be forgiven for thinking that these two are just having fun splashing each other. Whatever, we’d like to think is happening, we still need to give hippos a safe distance since they are very territorial and can be quite aggressive. Even with that potential, he hippo became one of my new favorite animals to photograph and especially to get this type of shot.
