BFAR distributes 10 fishing boats in Victorias

Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez with the beneficiaries of 10 fishing boats distributed to them by BFAR*

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources distributed 10 fiberglass fishing boats to six organizations of fisherfolks in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, on Nov. 27, as facilitated by Third District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez.

Benitez and Atty. James Kho, Governance and Institutional Adviser for the Visayas Sea Fishing Management Area for USAID Fishright Program, led the turnover of 10 fishing boats to its 223 beneficiaries in Barangay 6A, Victorias City, in collaboration also with the Negros 3rd Coastal Resource Management and Development Council, as well as the local government unit of Victorias City.

The 223 beneficiaries are members Boulevard Small Fisherfolks Association, Barangay VI-A Women’s Fisherfolks Association, Litib-litib Small Fisherfolks Association, Pasil Fisherfolks Association, and the Victorias City Small Fisherfolks Association, all in Brgy.6-A and Small Fishermen Association of Purok 6, Barangay 9, all of Victorias City.

Barangay 6A Punong Barangay Ana Mae Claro led the beneficiaries who united under Ugyon Baybayanon, in thanking Benitez and all those who helped the program.

Benitez is principal author of House Bill 10479, that was recently filed in Congress, which aims to establish a framework for blue economy, promoting stewardship and sustainable development of coastal and marine ecosystems and resources in the country.*
