GIJN Resources in 5th African Language

Thanks to our friends at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development in Nigeria, GIJN resources are now available in Yoruba, a language spoken by some 50 million people in West Africa. This brings to five the number of African languages that our resources have been translated to. Others are Amharic, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, and Hausa. We have also gathered all our translations in one place. Help us spread the word to potential readers.

Investigating Human Trafficking

Investigations into trafficking humans from Africa have featured prominently around the world. They include ICIJ's report on African women lured to UAE's thriving sex industry, a joint investigation into Liberian women breaking trafficking chains in Oman, DW's documentary on Africans trekking to Europe in search of a better life, and this story on teens sold into sex slavery that won The Daily Beast's Philip Obaji Jr international journalist of the year at the One World Media Awards. Keen to investigate this topic? Check out GIJN's resources for investigating human trafficking and organized crime in Africa.

Talking African Investigative Reporting

Catch up on conversations about African watchdog reporting, including the Wits Centre for Journalism's webinar on DNA profiling for journalists, One World Media's behind-the-scenes podcast with two past African winners of their awards, and CCIJ's recent transparency talks podcast featuring South African investigative journalist Raymond Joseph. You can also watch this African Women in Media webinar on the impact of limited press freedom on African female journalists.
