Chabad of Moldova established a Permanent Chabad Presence at Chișinău International Airport – Moldova’s International Airport. The decision to do so was made at the end of a discussion between the various security interests in the country and Moldova’s interest in bringing in Jewish tourists to Moldova.
After months of discussions, the government approved the Jewish community in the country to establish the Chabad house at the international airport in the capital Chisinau.
The stand will be operated by Rabbi Shmuel Zalmanov, one of the shluchim in the country As you may know, following the war in Ukraine, the country’s airports were closed and many of the travelers to and from Ukraine had to do so via the Moldova. The final approval was received in coordination with the local security forces, who understand the need to help the hundreds of Jewish passengers passing through the airport every day.
In the meantime, the President of Moldova Maia Sandu and the Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilița sent warm greeting letters on the occasion of the New Year to the Jewish people in general and to the Moldovan Jewish community in particular, the letters were addressed to Rabbi Zushe Abelsky, the head Shliach in Moldova.
President Sandu wrote that she “deeply admires the beauty of Rosh Hashanah – a holiday that deals with the self-improvement of the human being – and the great importance of passing this on to the next generation”. The president signed the letter with the Rosh Hashana greeting in Hebrew L’shana Tova U’mesuka.
