COVINA, CA – Covina-Valley Unified enthusiastically welcomed more than 11,000 students onto its campuses on Aug. 22 with banners, balloons, music, and smiling teachers, staff and mascots to begin the 2022-23 school year.

The District boasts a range of innovative programs for its students, including preschool and Transitional Kindergarten, dual-immersion courses in Mandarin and Spanish, 23 career technical education pathways, and after school programming that provides both academic support and supervised activities and recreation for students.

“Our dedicated staff has been working diligently to prepare a robust curriculum that will deliver educational excellence every day,” Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer said. “I can’t wait to see all the great things our students will accomplish this year.”

Covina-Valley Unified has deepened its commitment to promoting the health and wellness of students, teachers, staff and families for the coming school year. The District has established Wellness Centers at every school and has additional counselors in place to ensure all students receive the support they need to thrive.

Covina-Valley Unified will also be implementing many facilities upgrades at schools across the District, including a library modernization, a new pool and locker room facilities, HVAC installations to replace outdated units and deliver state-of-the-art air filtration, and roofing upgrades and repairs.

“Providing first-rate facilities to our students gives them a strong foundation for learning,” C-VUSD Chief Business Officer Manuel Correa said. “We are excited to continue to build on the already excellent infrastructure on our campuses thanks to the ongoing support of our community.”

Parent Teacher Association groups across the District have also been working hard to plan engaging activities for the year, such as field trips, fundraising events and family reading nights.

“Covina-Valley is a great community, and I love supporting our schools and our District,” PTA Service President Lenka Kendall said. “Everyone comes to you with open arms whether you’ve lived in Covina all your life or are a newcomer. The District really just embraces you and it feels like home.”

Covina-Valley Unified School District parents and families will have an opportunity to learn more about their children’s teachers and schools during a series of Back to School Nights, which began Aug. 24.

“I love visiting our campuses on the first day of school and seeing the excitement and enthusiasm of our students first-hand,” Superintendent Eminhizer said. “Our vision is to provide educational excellence for every student, every day, and I can confidently say that our awesome teachers and staff embodied that vision on day one.”
