What is the Home Depot Registry?

The Home Depot Inc. announced the launch of its first online gift registry yesterday as the hardware store chain expands its e-commerce and catalog businesses.

Live on homedepot.com, the registry offers gift options for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, housewarmings and holidays. The emphasis especially is on gifts for brides and grooms.

Items on the Registry

About 9,000 items are in the registry, including Home Depot staples like power tools and small appliances along with silverware and tabletop items. Consumers can search for gift recommendations by price, category or occasion.

Constantly updated, the registry is designed to send registrants e-mail notifications when registered gift selections have been bought. Registrants can monitor or change their selections at any time.

Categories of Items in the Home Depot Registry

The three registry categories currently are weddings, Father’s Day and housewarmings.

Atlanta-based Home Depot’s new direct marketing initiatives — a site revamp and debut catalog launch for the holidays in the fall — come following the appointment of Shelley Nandkeolyar to vice president of interactive marketing and e-business. He headed the catalog and e-commerce business at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc., New York, until his move last year.

According to Conde Nast Bridal Infobank, 2 million couples last year married and $6 billion was spent through wedding registries.

Participation in the Registry is awarded.

To encourage participation, Home Depot is offering registrants a chance to win everything in their registry up to $4,500 in value. The retailer will choose a winner in May.
