NACDS connects with Medicaid directors at virtual conference

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores is taking its messaging about the importance of pharmacy in combating the flu and bringing healthcare to underserved areas to the virtual conference for state Medicaid directors this week.

NACDS said it would be offering an interactive exhibit booth and one-on-one meetings for the duration of the National Association of Medicaid Directors’ 2020 Virtual Conference: Together Towards the Future, which takes place this week, Nov. 9 to 11. Attendees of the conference include Medicaid directors from all 50 states, five territories and the District of Columbia, and NACDS will be informing them about the role of receiving routine immunizations, including the flu vaccine, particularly as COVID-19 and flu season converge this year.

“A key part of preventing a two-front war with flu and COVID-19 is ensuring that every American – particularly those who are disproportionately affected by healthcare disparities — has access to the flu vaccination. The education, trust and accessibility of pharmacists play a vital role in meeting the health and wellness needs of the nation,” said Steve Anderson, NACDS President and CEO. “The National Association of Medicaid Directors provides a coordinated voice for the Medicaid program as well as the families and children it serves. As NACDS continues our flu communications campaign throughout this crucial flu season, we are grateful to have the opportunity to communicate directly with Medicaid Directors, senior leaders who – like pharmacies and pharmacists – are committed to providing the best possible healthcare to vulnerable communities and populations in every region of America.”

This week’s efforts follow NACDS’ recent participation in programs held by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. NACDS also participating at the National Conference of State Legislatures Base Camp 2020, urging state legislators to convey the public health message of flu vaccines to their communities.

Throughout flu season, NACDS said it is working with more than 80 organizations as part of its communications campaign.
