Stormtroopers have jetpacks now. At least that's what it looks like from the new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker clip shared Monday on the Star Wars Twitter account.
In the clip, we see two First Order stormtroopers get launched off the back of some type of desert speeder -- they basically look like snowmobiles made for sand -- and take flight after Rey and crew. C-3PO kicks off a chain of exclamations with: "They fly now!"
It might be the movie heroes' first time seeing them, but we've previously seen flying stormtroopers in the Star Wars canon. Before the First Order rose from its ashes, the Galactic Empire sent jumptroopers after the Ghost crew and its allies in the CGI animated series Rebels.
Director JJ Abrams shared the clip on Good Morning America, where he also revealed that one of the actors left their script under a hotel room bed and it ended up on eBay. Someone from Disney spotted it there, and managed to stop it from being sold.
On Sunday, Abrams tugged at our heartstrings during the American Music Awards by showing a retrospective look at the impact the saga has had on pop culture for more than 40 years.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens Dec. 20 worldwide, with previews Dec. 19.
