Detroit Evening Report: April 14, 2022: Detroit plans $10 million investment to provide internet access in Hope Village

Welcome to the Detroit Evening Report, a daily round-up of news that city residents need to know.

Detroit is rolling out a $10 million investment plan to provide equal internet access in Hope Village for 2,000 homes. It’s part of a 10-year plan to build a citywide fiber optic internet network, according to a report by Bridge Detroit. The city hopes to provide affordable internet access to all Detroiters by 2032 using federal COVID-19 funds. The project will be managed by the city’s Department of Digital Inclusion, which requires building physical infrastructure to support the project. Officials hope the plan will create a path for lower monthly rates and high-speed internet access. Details are expected to be shared at a community meeting on April 20 at Focus HOPE.
