STAT, a national health and medicine publication, is now accepting applications for its internship program. We are looking for two current students (undergraduate or graduate) or early-career journalists interested in a career in health, science, and medical journalism. The internship is expected to run from September 2021-November 2021, although exact dates are flexible and can be amended to suit the right candidate.

The interns will dive right in as general assignment reporters and be asked to handle both breaking news and to take on profiles, trend pieces, and big idea stories. The intern should expect some assignments, including coverage of the latest news from scientific journals, and stories for STAT+, our premium service for subscribers. However, we also encourage the development of reporters’ own ideas.

The intern will have the opportunity to work with and learn from our outstanding editorial staff, including our multimedia department.

This is a paid, full-time position (hourly rate is $15) and STAT’s preference is for those who are or who can be located in Boston for the duration of the internship to access the benefits of the city and region’s renowned hospitals, academic institutions, and local conferences. Candidates who are not in Boston, but who could travel to STAT’s headquarters in Boston for one week during their internship to meet the staff and participate in events are encouraged to apply, and we will do our best to accommodate these candidates.

For a more detailed description of what STAT interns can expect, please see our internships page.

To apply, interested candidates should include a resume, cover letter outlining why they’re interested in a position at STAT, and 2-3 relevant clips in a single PDF and upload it to the resume field in the application form here. The deadline for applications is Friday, July 9.
