The character paintings started with sketches and were finished in color to create the rugged feeling of the story and the Yellowstone landscape.
illustration of Silent Night Fox The fox is such a beautiful animal I had to dedicate one of the designs in this animal graphics series to this sleek denizen of the woods. The aurora borealis lights the night sky above. The vector illustrations are influenced by quilt designs and are a nostalgic homage to the work of Charley Harper. Each artwork features a nocturnal animal in the woods on Christmas night. The scenes are based on Michigan's snowy winter landscapes.

I tried to capture the feeling of that first day that feels like summer with the deep shadows in the afternoon and everything a lush green under the deep shadow of a sugar maple tree.

The sense of being lost and betrayed by the world while still searching for hope fills these figures with visual and emotional tension. Homelessness so often can mean being exposed and alone at night as Peter was The sky, clouds, and hard stones of the American West are used as a visual metaphor for the turbulent emotional landscape.
