Captain`s Council System

by J.P. Nerbun
Captain`s Council System

Description

The Captain's Council

Leadership System

Implementing and effectively running the Captain’s Council within your team is a powerful way to not only develop leaders, but to increase the chances everyone in your program feels seen, known, and cared for.

The 5 Functions of a Captain’s Council

1. Develop Leadership Skills

2. Decentralize Command

3. Create Connections and Cohesion

4. Support and Accountability

5. Become a Player-Led Team

The training will help you to with the following process:

Selecting Captains

Create/ Review Job Description
Nominations
Voting & Selection

Empowering Captains

First Meeting
3 Servant Leader Commitments
Selection of Units

System Execution

Weekly Meeting with Captain’s Council
Daily Opportunities
Other Ideas

The current model for leadership development in sports and business is failing miserably. All the research out there points to most traditional models being a complete waste of resources. Instead of delivering leadership lessons in a classroom or a weekend retreat, we need to focus on fo ur key things if we are to be successful:

1. Experiential Learning
2. Personal Development
3. Leadership System
4. Leader Mentorship

The Captain’s Council System provides a structure so your program will continually focus on those four key areas. While leading research has been foundational to its development, it has also relied on modeling some of sports greatest teams, such as the New Zealand All Blacks Rugby Team.

Culture and Leadership Consulting

Follow

I help coaches build a culture of high standards and strong relationships.

Since 2017, I have been supporting coaches, from High School to the NCAA Division 1 Level, through my consulting services and mentorship program.

Over the last 5 years I developed the Competitive Cauldron Spreadsheet for my own teams and helped over 50 coaches in basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, and hockey implement it within their program. The results have been nothing short of remarkable!

Before starting Thrive On Challenge, I spent over a decade coaching in Ireland, Lithuania, and America at the high school, college, and professional levels. And before I started coaching, I played basketball at the University of South Carolina.

Excellent course, does more than talk at a high level about the benefits of leadership and the need to create within your program. Instead it provides tangible actionable items that can help you and your players make progress towards those lofty aspirations.

This course is an excellent "how-to" implement a phenomenal leadership system for your team. JP breaks down each step simply and effectively. This year was the first year I used the Captain's Council with my team and it improved our leadership and player ownership vastly. Thank you, JP!

JP is OUTSTANDING when it comes to creating cultures in a program. This video helps teach you how to delegate leadership within your program so your players learn how to lead and do the work. If you want to improve the leadership structure in your program this leadership video is for you.

Very good insights on how to develop leaders in our program but in us as coaches as well. I was very unsure of how I wanted to use our captains and this gives a great guideline on how to use them effectively to help the whole team.
