Neyland Walker said his older brother, Kameron Walker, who plays tight end at NC State, helped guide him through the recruiting process, and Charleston Southern presented a good fit for him.

“The biggest thing with Charleston Southern for me is their coaches were so genuine and really hold a lot of value in family,” Neyland Walker said. “For me, it was a no-brainer, because of the people. I would rather go somewhere with great people. They just turned out as a program who focused on God and family. That’s all I could ask for.”

For Walker, getting to follow in his brother’s footsteps and play college football represents the achievement of a long-held dream.

“It’s a huge weight lifted off my shoulders,” Walker said. “Obviously they were my first offer, so after I got off the phone with them the first time, it was pretty special. It’s unreal. It’s like I’ve been locked up in a straight jacket for the last four years and all that pressure just got released at one time. So after that offer, I knew there was a really good chance that I was going to play college football, but committing and closing my recruitment is unreal. It’s really special.”
